Former MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY noncommercial WKAR/EAST LANSING, MI GM and Dir./Broadcast Services DEANNE HAMILTON has been named Pres./GM of ESSENTIAL PUBLIC RADIO noncommercial Talk-Jazz WESA (formerly WDUQ)/PITTSBURGH. HAMILTON, who will start at WESA on OCTOBER 17th, left WKAR on JULY 15th and previously served as VP/Television Station Manager at noncommercial KQED-F-TV/SAN FRANCISCO and in TV news at ABC affiliate KATU-TV/PORTLAND and CBS affiliate KPIX (TV)/SAN FRANCISCO.
"DEANNE, I think, brings the requisite experience and expertise, as well as the leadership skills that we were looking for," said EPR Chairman MARCO CARDAMONE. "We're excited to have DEANNE lead the team we're building at ESSENTIAL PUBLIC RADIO."
"Joining ESSENTIAL PUBLIC RADIO is a fabulous opportunity to help build a vibrant, excellent news service to fulfill the need for people to be informed about the PITTSBURGH community and to make their own decisions," said HAMILTON. "Broadcasting in recent years has gotten into sound bite journalism, and we need to instead focus on what public radio does best, to allow all of us to hear, listen and participate."
