Apparently, the techies and WALL STREET's "disappointment" with APPLE's introduction of the iPHONE 4S -- because it wasn't the much-anticipated iPHONE 5 -- hasn't translated to Main Street USA. According to the HUNTINGTON POST, APPLE reported that first-day pre-orders of the iPHONE 4S topped 1 million, easily breaking the record set by last year's model.
Last year when the iPHONE 4 was introduced, first-day orders were 600,000. Helping goose the new numbers is the fact that the iPHONE 4S is being sold by AT&T, VERIZON WIRELESS and SPRINT NEXTEL CORP, while last year's model was only available at AT&T.
Nevertheless, once word got out about the 4S' pre-sale orders, shares in APPLE stock -- which went down when the 4S was announced -- rose $9, or 2.4%, to $378.80 in pre-market trading TODAY..
The base model of the iPHONE 4S costs $200 with a two-year contract. It has a faster processor and an improved camera compared to last year's model. Sales of the phone starts on FRIDAY, OCT. 14th
