CLEAR CHANNEL Hot AC KMYI (STAR 94.1)/SAN DIEGO morning host AJ MACHADO is having quite a busy week. YESTERDAY, he received the SAN DIEGO PHILANTHROPY AWARD. TOMORROW he will be lifted up on a crane -- and will stay there until at least 101,00 unwrapped toys are donated for the patients of Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.
For the tenth year in a row, AJ will eat, sleep and broadcast on an 8’ x 10’ platform that is elevated up to 40 feet above ground until his annual toy collecting goal is achieved. It took eight days to reach last year’s goal of over 100,000 toys. "AJ’s Kids Crane" will take place in the parking lot of IKEA in MISSION VALLEY.
"Despite our difficult economy, San Diegans have always shown their generosity and we’re confident that this year will be no exception," MACHADO said. "Something as simple as a toy can make the fear and pain of a child’s illness or injury easier to bare. The toys we collect now will brighten the lives of thousands of children receiving treatment at Rady Children’s Hospital over the next 12 months."
YESTERDAY, MACHADO received an award as the only winner in the category of Celebrity Philanthropist. You think raising over three million donated toys over the past 10 years would have anything to do with it?
