In a move to strengthen CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WKQI (CHANNEL 95-5)/DETROIT, the company has flipped sister Top 40 WDTW (106.7 THE BEAT) to Classic Rock as 106.7 THE D. THE D will broadcast "the next generation of Classic Rock radio," featuring favorites like RUSH, VAN HALEN, THE POLICE, AC/DC, TALKING HEADS, GUNS N’ ROSES, ZZ TOP, OZZY OSBOURNE, TOM PETTY, BILLY SQUIER and U2.
"DETROIT is a rock city, and 106.7 THE D will bring the next generation of Classic Rock to this city," said OM TODD THOMAS. "Listeners who graduated in the '80s finally have a music station to listen to again. 106.7 THE D will play great songs for everyone born, raised and rocked in DETROIT."
CLEAR CHANNEL SVP/Programming JON ZELLNER told ALL ACCESS, "We have positioned 'THE D' between an Active Rock and Classic Rock and this station feels and sounds just like DETROIT. We are playing 10,000 songs in a row and that gives us five weeks to assemble a staff of well-known DETROIT personalities. Some will be based here, but all will have a strong connection to the MOTOR CITY."
Following the 10,000 songs, the station will call a listener and give away $10,000 to thank them for listening to THE D's kick-off broadcast event.
THE D is also looking air staff, especially born-and-raised DETROIT rockers. If interested, please send airchecks, photos and other appropriate materials to 1067theD@gmail.com.
