DIAL GLOBAL and CBS RADIO Talk WPHT-A/PHILADELPHIA host MICHAEL SMERCONISH is hosting a panel discussion on the legal issues surrounding the controversial MUMIA ABU JAMAL case, with a special screening of TIGRE HILL's documentary of the murder of PHILADELPHIA police officer DANIEL FAULKNER, "THE BARREL OF A GUN."
The panel at the KESWICK THEATER in GLENSIDE, PA on THURSDAY (12/8) will include SMERCONISH, who wrote the book "Murdered by MUMIA" about the case; FAULKNER's widow MAUREEN FAULKNER; PHILADELPHIA District Attorney SETH WILLIAMS (who, TODAY, announced that he will no longer pursue the death penalty against ABU JAMAL); former Assistant D.A. JOSEPH MCGILL; Chief Assistant D.A., Appeals Unit HUGH BURNS (the original prosecutor in the case); and HILL, the filmmaker.
FRIDAY is the 30th anniversary of FAULKNER's murder during a traffic stop involving ABU JAMAL's brother WILLIAM COOK. ABU JAMAL's trial became a cause celebre among death penalty opponents who claim the former radio journalist was not given a fair trial.
