blackbear was born Matthew Tyler Musto in Daytona Beach, FL on November 27, 1990.
In high school, he was singer in a local band, Polaroid. He would leave the band and move to Atlanta, where he worked with the artist Ne-Yo.
His first EP, Brightness, was released in 2008. By 2011 he adopted the psuedonym blackbear. The first song using that nickname was Mike Posner's "Marauder Music" from 2011.
He has released four studio albums in the last five years alone, including 2017's gold-certified digital Druglord and 2019's Anonymous.
He has also collaborated with the likes of Pharrell Williams and Linkin Park, and brought his top-notch songwriting skills to Justin Bieber’s six-times-platinum single "Boyfriend."
blackbear collaborated with Marshmello on the 2019 single "Tongue Tied" (also featuring Yungblud). His anthem "hot girl bummer," released in August 2019, reached #2 at Top 40 radio and was certified double-platinum, becoming his most successful release since 2017's double-platinum "do re mi."
"Queen Of Broken Hearts" is from blackbear's fifth studio album, everything means nothing.
