10 Questions with ... Joey Franchize

BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:

Worked on-air at WZMX (Hot 93.7)/Hartford for seven years and at WODS (103.3 Amp Radio)/Boston before landing here in Tampa. I was also official DJ for the UConn Huskies and tour DJ for artist, Chris Webby.

1. What got you into radio?

My love for radio came in high school. Taking the bus to school while listening to my local station station, Hot 93.7 and thinking how awesome it was, hearing them bring up crazy topics, interviewing artist, and the dope mixshows. I admired what they did and it inspired ad motivated me.

2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?

I honestly wanted to be a sports commentator. Basketball was my favorite sport growing up and my favorite announcer was Bob Costas. His voice and delivery is unmatched.

3. What was the biggest change in the move from Hartford to Tampa?

For one, it was being in a bigger city. lol. Second, the weather. But, honestly Tampa does feel like home. It felt weird at first but, the city embraced me as soon as I got here. I feel at home, just on a bigger stage.

4. What would probably surprise most people about Tampa?

I think what would surprise most people is the amount of people that live here, are from my neck of the woods. A lot of northerners live down here. Some even remember me for my time on radio in Hartford and Boston. It's great. Oh! And the food. There are so many good places to eat.

5. What do you think the biggest similarity is about being on the air and spinning in a nightclub?

It's similar because all the hottest records in the club are on our station. Orlando and Christine (Brewstaaa) do a great job programming the station and are great at knowing what's going to be hit on the air, so DJs like myself & the WiLD DJs can get it rocking in the club.

6. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?

I honestly think if it weren't radio, I'd be working for a sports network or working with a sports franchise, no pun intended lol.

7. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love watching movies, playing video games, & djing, perfecting my craft. It's an escape for me.

8. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?

I'd say The Bachelor. lol! You mean to tell me, I get all these beautiful women to compete to be my lady? The hardest part would be choosing just one haha. Sign me up!

9. Anything make you homesick for Hartford?

Just not being able to see my family and close friends as much. Call me crazy...I kind of miss the snow. I'd just go up for one day of snow, and be good after that.

10. If your boss, Orlando Davis, became a member of The Avengers, what do you think his super power or specialty be?

Oh! That's a good one. I love the Marvel comics and especially the movies. I'd say Orlando would be a hybrid of Captain America and Iron Man. He has Cap's leadership and the wit of Tony Stark.

If you had to eat one type of meal everyday for a month, what would it be?

Easy! Italian. I love pizza. It's a problem.
