BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started out recording and performing with the 90s rap group, Lighter Shade of Brown. In 2000, I began my radio career at KGGI in Riverside, CA. Later in 2000 became MD/nights. In 2004, I began my late-night shift at KIISFM in Los Angeles while still doing nights at KGGI. In 2009, I moved to afternoons at KGGI before eventually falling into mornings in 2015. Now it's ODM & Evelyn (Erives) in the morning.
1. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
Big league dreams of becoming a professional baseball player. That got cut short when the grades weren’t there. So, I chose RAP :)
2. Why go from music to a radio air personality?
I always had the desire to become a radio personality. This dude is a people person so it seemed like a cool platform to be on and entertain. Nothing like running the mother board and controlling the space waves. I remember when LSOB would make its radio promo runs I would always look at the on-air jock and go, “I wouldn’t mind trying that out one day”. Four minutes a day on radio as an artist wasn’t long enough. Now four hours on radio? That’s even better. I’m a LEO, can you tell?
3. How did performing on stage prepare you for being on the air?
I’ve always been comfortable in front of crowds since middle school. The stage/on-air with some confidence goes a long way. I remember the first couple of months on air, a listener called up to let me know how too “HYPE” I was on radio and that I should come down from a 10 to a 5. LOL! I was used to being on stage and felt like I had to perform still.
4. Do you still write songs?
Recently, I got back into the studio during 2020 and released a song called Summer Souldie ft. Miriah Avila. It felt good to get back to my roots and first passion.
5. What do you feel the pandemic has taught you about yourself?
How strong my hustle is to keep a roof over my family’s head. The pandemic affected a lot of families in all angles and we were blessed to push through and keep thriving.
6. Pick up any new hobbies or interests during the pandemic?
I started a podcast while continuing to vlog on our family YouTube channel. You have to be creative when you’re on lockdown lol.
7. If you weren't in music or radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
I would think something along the lines of stepping up my career to more of a consulting level. Been in it long enough...on both sides.
8. You've done a lot during your career in the public eye. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
Just because I’ve always been a fan growing up, it would either be Family Feud or The Price is Right.
9. If Bobby were still here, who would you and Bobby go up against in a Verzuz battle?
Great question! My first thought would whoever wants to get it!!! That’s my rap ego talking. No seriously, maybe for fun I feel our fan base would enjoy watching Kid Frost and us go back to back tracks for the culture.
10. What would you like to do better as a morning personality?
Listen rather than talk...lol.
Bonus Questions
If you had to eat one type of meal every day for a month, what would it be?
Mexican all day. Although I’d hate myself at the end of the month. Pounds! Pounds! Pounds!
Any New Year's resolutions?
Be more structured. Work on growth. You can’t allow things to go stale in your life.
