KT Tunstall
Aug 4, 2013
We all know the great worldwide success KT Tunstall has enjoyed since the release of Eye To The Telescope which featured the song "Black Horse And A Cherry Tree" back in 2005. And her subsequent releases pretty much stayed loyal to that up-tempo, energetic sound.
But with the release of Invisible Empire/Crescent Moon, we find Tunstall in an entirely different creative sphere - due in large part to two life-changing personal developments in her life: the passing of her adoptive father last year and her recent divorce after four years of marriage. By travelling to Tucson and working with producer Howie Gelb, we find her steppin' back a bit, taking stock of her life and ultimately delivering a collection of thoughtful and unguarded songs.
It takes a few listens, but Invisible Empire/Crescent Moon (her fourth release) may be Tunstall's best album yet song for song. In addition to the title tracks, several other songs become more seductive with repeated listens including "Feel It All' (both versions), "Carried," "Made Of Glass," "Waiting On The Heart" and "Honeydew."
Of the project, Tunstall said, "I followed my path of truth and ended up in a different place."
KT's performed on "Later... With Jools Holland" in June. She was recently featured on NPR's "Weekend Edition," and is scheduled to appear on "The Today Show" and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" this week. A video for "Invisible Empire" has just been released.
