Lana Del Rey
Jul 27, 2014

Lana Del Rey grew up as Elizabeth Grant in Lake Placid, NY. At 18, she headed to New York City and after an attempt at a pop career, she decided to completely re-invent herself. First was a name change to Lana Del Rey, and second was an exploration of various musical styles that would eventually gel into her unique "cinematic noir" sound she has today.
Then came "Video Games" in 2012, which changed everything and propelled her career onto a worldwide stage. She has since released the albums Born To Die, Paradise and now, Ultraviolence.
The new project was produced by Dan Auerbach in his Easy Eye Studios in Nashville. You can hear his influence in the production but the distinctive sound that defines Del Rey remains intact. Key tracks from Ultraviolence include, "West Coat," "Shades Of Cool," "Sad Girl," "Brooklyn Baby" and the title track.
In a recent Fader interview, Del Rey said this about Ultraviolence. "Every track that I put on there and every track name and the order that it's in tells a story that is important to me. In my mind, the narrative for this record ends with the last track."
On May 23rd, Del Rey performed three songs at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's pre-wedding celebration at the Palace of Versailles. She recorded "Once Upon a Dream" (from the 1959 film Sleeping Beauty) for the 2014 dark fantasy film Maleficent. She graces the cover of the current Rolling Stone (her second cover story) and revealed in the article she would be a guest on Brian Wilson's forthcoming studio album.
Del Rey recently wound up a worldwide tour that included stops at Coachella and Glastonbury. She has a few dates currently booked for the future.
