V V Brown
Mar 22, 2010

Songwriter, singer, producer, musician, visual artist and model V V Brown is set to take America by storm - something she has already accomplished in her native England. And she, like so many of her contemporaries, is using the musical styles of past decades to serve as an inspiration. In Brown's case, she is reaching back to the early days of rock 'n' roll and doo-wap. But her music is not a trip down memory lane; rather it is fresh, fun and energetic.
But even though this may be the first time we are really getting acquainted with Brown, it is important to note she tried once before to take her shot at success. However, the direction she was steered in by her record company just didn't feel comfortable to her. After a time of re-evaluation and some soul-searching, Brown decided to take control of her own creative destiny and make the music she wanted to make.
Brown cites artists such as Aretha Franklin, the Rolling Stones, Ruth Brown, Elvis Presley and Queen as early influences as well as singing in her church choir. More recently, she points to Alicia Keys and Amy Winehouse as role models. "I can't remember a time when music was not a part of me," she said of her Northampton, England childhood. "When I was five, I remember writing my first song on the piano. I played the same notes over and over again and from that moment I just knew that music would be a huge part of my life."
Her debut effort for Capitol, "Travelling Like the Light," is aptly titled because it seems that everything Brown does in her life is laser focused and full speed ahead. In addition to the first single, "Shark in the Water," several others tracks have been getting the attention of radio including "Quick Fix," "Bottles," "Back in Time," "Crying Blood" and "Everybody."
In addition to some recent TV appearances on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" and "The Rachael Ray Show," several of Brown's songs have showed up in shows such as "Cougar Town," "The Vampire Diaries," "CSI: NY," "90210" and "Desperate Housewives."
