Polica
Jul 4, 2016
Minneapolis-St. Paul has always been known as a hotbed for the independent music scene, and many bands have broken through to national and international success. One of the latest bands to emerge is called Polica.
The band rose from the ashes of a popular duo called Roma di Luna - one half of that duo was Channy Leaneagh (vocals). She is joined by Chris Bierden (bassist), Drew Christopherson (percussion) and Ben Ivascu (percussion) to round out the band.
Polica has just released their third full-length album called United Crushers. Produced by Ryan Olsen (who has worked with Leaneagh since the band Gayings) we find the band's signature sound intact, but the new album features an extended approach in sound and texture.
Several tracks on United Crusher deserve your attention including "Summer Please," "Lime Habit," "Wedding," "Kind" and "Fish ". All ask serious questions and express deep concerns about our future but ultimately celebrate hope -- something that was top of mind for Leaneagh as she was pregnant during the writing and recording process.
In a recent interview, Leaneagh said "I am drawn to music and I like making music that is comforting in its kind of darkness and its reality."
Polica will be touring the U.K. and Europe heavily this summer and fall but there are a few U.S. date planned including an appearance at The Outside Lands Festival.
- 7/30 Studio E, Brooklyn
- 7/31 The Underground Music Showcase, Denver
- 8/05 Outside Lands - Golden Gate Park, San Francisco
