Allison Kay has multiple duties for Townsquare Media/Poughkeepsie. She’s the night host for Alternative WRRV (92.7/96.9), and does middays for AC WKXP (94.3 Lite FM). “I also take part in the radio station's social media where I showcase my personality with videos to engage listeners' opinions on topics,” she explains.
“There are also live and free concerts that take place each month with the radio station. This allows us as radio hosts/personalities along with the community to come together with local artists and celebrities to share a similar interest that we can all enjoy, music,” says Kay. “From on-air radio host to writer, content creator, model, actress and host, I thrive in these exciting environments filled with like-minded friends and uplifting experiences. It's fun to meet new people who share similar interests all around the world.”
“I began my journey in radio when I attended college. After taking many classes related to radio, television, and communication, I then received my BA and started searching for my next stop in this exciting adventure.”
“After college, I landed at a local radio station in the Hudson Valley where I not only worked in promotions but also on-air as a radio host/personality. After a few years, I then went to a different company, Townsquare, where I have been for several years and am thankful to be there every day.”
“I always knew that I was going to create a life in the entertainment industry,” says Kay. Growing up, I watched QVC and let it be known that I would be a host there one day (It’ll happen). From radio to television, to hosting etc., I know that I was made to be a part of it all.”
“So far I am proud of my accomplishments,” says Kay. “I give myself credit for always pushing forward. I have never taken no for an answer and pursued what I wanted; therefore, I received it. This is a mindset that I will continue to use because anything is truly possible if you believe you deserve it and that it's already yours. My biggest accomplishment so far is being right where I am. Pushing through all the harder moments in the beginning. It may sound cliche but simply, be you. There is no one else in the world like you and that's what stands out most, being genuine and being real.”
“I love the opportunity to connect with listeners on social media and over the airways. I'm in a position where I can be my authentic self and more, which truly allows me to shine and be relatable to those who listen. If there's something that you want, you can make a way for it to happen. Be positive and keep going. Sometimes, it just takes time to come into play. The world is filled with so many opportunities, we just must be open to accept it.”
“Off-air, you can find me exploring new destinations by plane and local trails by bike or on foot,” explains Kay. “I most enjoy spending time with my friends, family, and cats. One of my favorite parts about traveling and exploring new places is diversity. I've learned how important it is for us to come together as one and embrace our differences. We have a lot to learn from one another and if we do so, we could co-exist more which would then cause a ripple effect where we all feel heard, loved and seen. I love seeing all the diverse aspects across social media for this industry. On Instagram, @Women In Radio does a great job showcasing this, along with @TheRadioFam. Let's all connect, grow together, and do what makes our souls happy. It's exactly what the world needs.”
“When it comes to myself, I find balance through my spiritual practices and self-care,” she says. “I do inner work such as meditation, yoga, and self-care. Seeing a life coach, counselor and/or spiritual teacher has allowed me to learn ways to stay calm, grounded and centered in the world. It’s truly rewarding to experience peace and awareness to ultimately, be the best version of yourself.”
“I love my shows and I'm so happy to do what I love, which makes my heart full and soul happy. Making a place where people feel heard, loved and seen is super important in my shows and I deliver that message. I also share real life stories, with friends, astrology, in the dating scene and with spiritual experiences as well. Connecting with the community is huge and it's fun to interact with those who take the time to listen and make us a part of their day, week, month and even life.”
“I love calling in new opportunities within the industry and ways that I can grow as a person and within radio,” says Kay. “I'm excited for all the experiences coming my way, we shall see what 2023 brings!”
