NAME:Angela StevensTITLE:Promotions Director/AfternoonsSTATION:WGTS 91.9FORMAT:Christian ACLOCATION:Washington, D.C.BORN:Takoma Park, MDRAISED:Washington, D.C. (Sadly, I've lived my entire life inside "The Beltway.")
Brief Career Synopsis:
I started working in radio at 17, so radio is pretty much all I've ever known. I have enjoyed doing many different types of things within radio including traffic reporting, audio production, show production, spot traffic. I've even dabbled in sales. Before joining WGTS as Promotions Dir./afternoon driver, I was with Clear Channel/Washington.
1) What made you want to get into the music business?
Being a musician, it's in my blood!
2) Did you have any mentors or early jobs that inspired you to go this career route?
Actually yes! Like many others, I found myself in radio by accident. A friend of mine, who worked at a radio station, asked me to apply for weekends because I had "nice voice." I've never looked back.
3) What are the tools/resources you use to stay on top of industry growth and daily changes?
There are so many. I'm fortunate to work for a station that is future-focused and has hired some wonderful people to help us stay focused and on top of our game.
4) What are you most looking forward to in your new position with WGTS?
Growth. Growth as an artist and as a person.
5) What is your most favorite promotion you've been a part of?
Random Acts of Christmas, watching people pour their hearts out to help people they had never met was pretty amazing.
6) What is your most memorable on-air moment?
Not really sure, there have been so many memorable moments. Not all of them are good.
7) If you could have any job outside the music business, what would it be?
Janitor. It sounds silly, but cleaning is peaceful, and you don't take your work home with you.
8) What is the most precious memory of your life so far?
I had a pretty memorable moment recently when I talked about my father on the air. I held my composure until I finished the break and then bawled my eyes out off-air for a good 15 minutes.
9) Who has had the biggest impact on these facets of your life: personal, professional and spiritual? Why?
My father has taught me so much about life and about God. I wouldn't be where I am today without him.
10) What do you love most about Washington, D.C.? The least?
I love that fact that important, historical decisions were made in this city. I HATE the politics. EVERYTHING around here is politics.
Bonus Questions
1) What are you reading right now?
"Pyro Marketing" by Greg Stielstra for work, "Traditions of the Ancients: Vintage Faith Practices for the 21st Century" for myself
2 ) What's in your CD player right now?
"Best of Mariah Carey"
3) Do you have any musical guilty pleasures?
Yes, disco.
4) Describe your favorite meal.
IHOP's All You Can Eat Pancakes. Enough said.
5) If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you and why?
A Bible for companionship, a journal for inspiration, and a pen, so I could use the journal, 'cause a journal without a pen would be kinda pointless, unless I found some weird plant to write with.
6) Favorite TV program of all-time
"Mystery Science Theatre 3000"
