NAME:Peter KayeTITLE:Afternoon Drive HostSTATION:WPTRMARKET:Albany, NYCOMPANY:Crawford BroadcastingBORN:Albany, NYRAISED:Albany, NY
BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started off as the overnight jock at WQCK in Baton Rouge (Contemporary Christian) & quickly began wearing as many hats as were offered to me, just like everyone else in this crazy business!!! I went from there to middays at WDGL (Classic Rock), to Oldies, to Smooth Jazz, & back to the format that I enjoy the most Contemporary Christian as afternoon host of WPTR.
1) What was your first job in radio? Early influences?
WQCK, Baton Rouge, LA. I did the dreaded overnight shift.
2) How do you prepare for your show day? What's your biggest challenge?
Trying to "strain" everything through the "funnel" of family. There are always subjects that I am interested in that really have very little interest to a single mom who's picking up the kids at day care.
3) What is your most memorable on-air moment?
I had better say that it was when I proposed to my girlfriend!!! (She said "yes" believe it or not.)
4) What is your favorite show feature and what makes it successful?
Phoners, Phoners, Phoners! Whatever the question might be that day - the fun is finding out as much as you can about your core listeners.
5) Best advice for making a show for a Christian station?
Don't preach between songs! I realize it is a cliche, but the message is truly in the music!
6) Who do you look up to as an air/personality not at your station?
As much as it pains me to admit it, that person would be 93.9 The Song's Kurt Wallace. A true pro with not as much as an ego as you might expect! (Sorry, Kurt!)
7) If you could have any job outside the music business, what would it be?
Any job? Driving a formula one racecar!!! A little more realistic job? How about a writer for Car & Driver.
8) What book have you read that has touched you or taught you the most?
It would have to be one of Dr. James Dobson's books on parenting/family life. They are all extremely informative. It's hard to pick just one.
9) Which character in the Bible do you most relate to? Why?
Believe it or not - ST. Peter! I love how he was always ready to jump into any situation with both feet! (Even without thinking things through all of the way.)
10) What is the most precious memory of your life so far?
A toss up between many experiences... Let's go with the birth of my daughter, Emily.
Bonus Questions
1) Do you have Musical Guilty Pleasures?
OK - it's true - I love Queen! That's between us right?
