1. Please tell us about your career journey?
I’ve always felt like an entertainer… ever since I was a kid. As an adult though, I initially ended up in the business world working for several years and then working part time with a talent agency doing odd jobs whenever I could. Then I hit my big break when I was hired by Fox Sports! It was an incredible opportunity that allowed me to work on-air with all the major sports teams in Ohio, plus travel nationally with Fox Sports. After a few years, my heart was pulling me in a different direction… I wasn’t sure where. I felt God was calling me to do something else… and when the morning show position opened up in Cleveland at 95.5 The Fish, I felt that was where I was supposed to be next! It’s been over 7 years now… It’s such a blessing to be able to help lift people up and be a blessing as they start their day!
2. Share a moment in your career that you’ll always remember.
Years back I was backstage at a “For King and Country” concert. They have an album called “Priceless” that I just loved. The basic idea is that you’re priceless in God’s eye… and they stress the importance of knowing this as girl/woman. It’s amazing. Well, I was backstage telling Joel how much the song “Priceless” meant to me and my daughter who was a new teenager…. He looked me right in the eye and took off his own personal “Priceless” necklace and gave it to me to give to my daughter. I’ll never forget that.
3. The best advice you've ever received was…
Find a way to add more value than anybody else does. Be the person that does more for others. Everyday work hard on yourself. If you become more intelligent, more valuable, more skilled, you can add more value to others.
4. How do you continue learning and growing?
Always be willing to wear multiple hats, network, and learn from your mentors. I’ve always been someone that wanted to learn everything… I love working in radio and TV, but knowing how the business and sales side works in the business has helped me tremendously. I also love watching, listening, and studying the people I look up to that fit my personality. (For me, I love Kathie Lee Gifford and Kelli Ripa!)
5. What’s one thing you wish you’d known about radio when you first started?
Not to judge myself too hard and to be myself. When I first started, I was really trying to find myself… and trying to be what I think people wanted. We had a consultant come in and it really helped me find my voice and be the real me!
6. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why?
My co-host Len Howser! I’ve learned so much from him throughout the years… Not only about radio, but about life! He has truly taught me more about loving people, giving to others, and how to truly be a light for Jesus than anyone else in my life.
7. What’s something about you that would surprise people?
I was the lead singer of a Motown Wedding Band for years!
8. What’s on your nightstand?
My Bible, oil diffuser, and a small engraved piano my grandma gave me before she passed away.
9. Finish this sentence: My day doesn’t start properly before I have my...
Coffee. I know that’s a cliche answer, but it’s TRUE! No coffee, no talkie!
10. What do you to unwind and chill?
I love relaxing in my infrared sauna and reading. I’m really into health and wellness… so I’ll also just relax listening to spa music and do breathing exercise. And sometimes… just good old mindless TV hits just right!
