Are You Person One Or Person Two?

There are two kinds of people in this world. The first, being people that are willing to adjust, grow, learn, and reinvent. The second, being people that are defined by their struggle and use that struggle as an excuse to be a lesser version of themselves.
I believe this person one/person two idea to be applicable to every element of life. For example, when we go through a break up, we will either allow that lesson to reveal aspects of ourselves that could use some work and we work on it. On the flipside, when person two takes over, we allow those experiences to harden us, or use the negative experience as an excuse to act poorly in our future relationships because we have been “hurt.”
Now, if I apply this idea to COVID-19, person number one of course recognizes that these times are tough but they are ready and willing to adopt a new way of operating. Person number two will sulk in the misfortune of it all and say things like “Well I can’t do this because of this hindering me” or “ I don’t have this so I can’t do that.” Thoughts are powerful and ultimately steer our lives direction. If I tell myself I am crippled, I will in fact be crippled. Ironically in that situation you are the crippler and the cripplee.
Being a self-starter is not a quality that everyone possesses. Does that mean that success or growth is an unreachable feat for those of us that are not blessed with that fearless go-getter attitude? I don’t think so. I believe that success is rooted in the willingness to improve on the things that don’t come naturally to us. Success is rooted in our level of awareness and discipline to become better at the things that have proven to be difficult. That is the difference.
Be resourceful always… but, especially now. If you need help to be motivated or need help adopting a new skill or a new way of thinking to help you to be successful, then GET HELP!! I have made my biggest strides and been my most successful self when I seek out mentorship, when I seek out guidance from someone I look up to, when I have an exchange of ideas with friends. We are all in this together, and by “this,” I mean life, not COVID--it takes a village people!! COVID isn’t keeping you down; you’re keeping you down by allowing COVID to dictate what you’re capable of.
We should all be striving to be person one, not just during times of struggle, but always, in every element of our lives. While it can be difficult to acknowledge, reflect, and spend time working on the things we aren’t good at, we will be better partners, better friends, better workers, and ultimately more successful people if we do.
