Mask Marketing
I had never been to Tampa prior to May of 1998 and the launch of WiLD, and one of the things I noticed while researching the market the week prior to pushing the button, was that servers at bars all wore fannypacks. Not a few but like every single one.
So…in the first batch of swag we got 250 logoed fanny packs and over the next week or two went bar to bar to bar, giving them to servers. And a fairly high percentage got used.
Sitting at Shepherds waiting for my 16 ounce can of Bud Lite and there at face level was the logo as the waitress took my money and counted out change.
Dr. Dave and Orlando reported sightings for a couple of years before the trend evaporated.
Monica, the Promo Asst. at Wired in Philly did that following that launch with logoed pens. She handed them out to servers by the hundreds.
Sitting at 94th Street Aero Squadron and am ready to sign my bill and the server hands me a logoed pen.
Cat Thomas at Entercom has started marketing via Uber and Lyft:
I’ve been taking rides and been giving UBER/LYFT Drivers 20 masks at a time for Riders that are out for the night and forget theirs. I was talking to a driver who said that a lot of people who are going out either have crappy ones, lost theirs or forgot theirs and he was thinking of buying a box of masks for this car. Viola…I give them masks and they hand them out to the masses for me! Since masks are mandatory to ride, he now has masks with a big Y98 on the front of it to give his customers. Each one is hermetically sealed and safe for distribution!
One of the things that I’ve noticed when going to either fast food drive thrus or sit down restaurants or even grocery stores is that there are no branded masks, ie: the Taco John’s person is wearing some generic mask.
It seems like an opportunity to go out and give some to these literally front-line workers who serve/greet hundreds and hundreds of people a day.
Next level would be to do an At Work contest: let us know where you mask with us and we’ll pop in. If you are, you get a prize.
