BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I dove into the world of radio as an intern in college which I did during Christmas break at a radio station in North Carolina. When I graduated, they offered me a job, which I accepted and started off the in the promotions/marketing department. Within six months of starting, I began training to be on the air and I worked my way up from overnights, to nights, to middays. From there, I found a position in Colorado and moved, I was on a Rock station, 95 Rock, and a Hot AC station, Mix 104.3. I got a promotion and now have a nationally syndicated show as well as my local show on Mix 104.3.
1. How would you describe your first radio gig?
A very fun experience that taught me a whole lot about not only radio but people, business and just life overall.
2. What led you to a career in radio?
I knew that I wanted to work in the music industry, originally thinking that I’d work for a record label, as music is what started it all. I’m thankful to be able to have my career centered around people and music!
3. When you’re prepping your local midday show in Grand Junction, do you lean on outside services or do you have your own research go-tos?
I’m big on creating my own content, so I do a lot of engagement posts as well and informative, entertaining articles that I write on my own. I do pay attention to trending topics outside of Colorado as well using social media as well as Townsquare’s national content.
4. “Local local local” has always been radio’s mantra. How do you keep yourself visible and involved in the community?
I love doing interviews, MCing and writing articles about people in the community. I have a weekly feature called Mix 104.3’s Local Love that’s all about someone in the community. I think it’s important to keep your station relevant and in people’s sight and minds.
5. Which social media platforms do you use to engage with your listeners these days?
Facebook and Instagram as well as the Mix 104.3 app.
6. It must be exciting to be on a national platform for Townsquare. How did that come about what’s it all been like for you?
I believe that if you consistently put in good work, no matter where you’re at, it will be noticed. I was asked if I’d be interested, which of course I was, and about a year ago I got my dream of having a syndicated show.
7. What is your favorite part of doing the syndicated show?
It truly is my dream to have a syndicated show, but working with different markets and hearing my voice in different cities and having the freedom to walk about whatever I want.
8. What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Stay true to yourself and go for what you want.
9. Who were your mentors? Who would you say has influenced your career the most?
Myself - I’ve always consistently pushed and encouraged myself, it’s totally up to you to set and surpass your own goals. You are your own biggest fan and critic. I’m constantly inspired by lots of things around me – back in the day it was TRL, nowadays it my boyfriend, social media influencers like the NELK Boys and just people in general.
