Have an opening? Has it been posted? Your website, sister stations and community leaders all MUST be contacted with the information (unless you are promoting from within). Make a sincere effort. The FCC is issuing fines for non-compliance.

Letting someone go is neither pleasant nor cheap. Make sure you have a paper trail on anyone being let go. Know the rules on constructive dismissal. Then "get it done" with poise and empathy. Make sure your business manager is in the room with you, and leave the terminated employee with dignity.

Calling into to get messages? Call the main number and listen to how your receptionist is answering the phone. Remember, that person is the "director of first impressions. "Make sure the receptionist(s) is delivering great impressions with the advertisers and listeners.

It's the dog days of summer. Let's make today "walk-around day." A good day to walk around a say "hi" to:
1. The morning show. (It will make their day -- and your daypart)
2. The traffic department. (They have the power - no, really!)
3. The engineers. (They will wonder if we're off the air. Assure them we're not. Tell them they're appreciated)
4. The street team. (Your marketing future. Don't approach if they wrecked the van this week)These are departments that rarely get any acknowledgement or face time from the "Big Office." (That's you). Get out there. Show them the love. Say hello! A little attention goes a long way.

Today is the day you review expenses for the month to date. Are we on track? Are the costs in line with (or less than) budget? August expenses are usually your smallest of the year. (You spent all the big money in the spring ... hopefully). Don't lose track of it. Are you pacing ahead of budget? Controlling expenses in August really rocks the bottom line. Make it count because you have big numbers coming up in the Fall.
