Please begin by giving us a brief career history:
WQSD/Myrtle Beach, SC - Program Director/Mornings (2004-2005)
WPXC/Cape Cod, MA - Afternoon Drive (2003-2004)
WCIB/Cape Cod, MA - Afternoon Drive (2000-2003)
WBGB/Jacksonville, FL - Morning Drive (1998-1999)
WPLA/Jacksonville, FL - Weekend Warrior (1997-1998)
WTLK/Jacksonville, FL - Board Op/Programming Coordinator (1996-1998)
WNZS/Jacksonville, FL - Board Op (1992-1996)1) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
Studying Arabic. No - just kidding. Working on getting back to a single-digit handicap.
2) Do you plan on sticking with the radio industry?
If the right offer comes along, I'd seriously consider it. However, I've been fortunate enough to get a great marketing gig with one of my former station's biggest clients. The money is great, I'm back to working 40 hours a week and I'm surrounded by great people without egos
3) What is your best way to get your foot in the door?
Be humble, yet confident in your abilities.
4) So far what has been your best resource for finding out about job openings?
Is there any other place than All Access?
5) What's the craziest thing you've ever done to get a job?
I've never been one for craziness in that sense. It's a by-product of being mentally conservative.
6) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
Speechwriter for whoever runs against Hillary Clinton in 2008. Seriously...a programming gig working alongside people who "get radio" - hopefully with a News/Talk/Sports station.
7) What's the most unbelievable question you've ever been asked in an interview?
Have I ever "gone hogging?" The answer was yes. I'm glad my wife won't read this.
8) Are you spending as much time listening to radio as you used to?
I listen a little bit less, but I'm enjoying it more.
9) In your opinion, what has been your biggest career accomplishment in the industry?
Reporting on the hideousness of September 11, 2001 without breaking into tears with the microphone on. I had friends who worked in the South Tower and at The Pentagon.
10) What do you miss most about radio? The least?
I miss the one-on-one interaction with the listeners. I don't miss ridiculous sales concepts that poison the integrity of programming.
Bonus Questions
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
Being the best dad and husband possible. Now, I hope my wife reads this!
Any books you can recommend to people who need something inspirational to read?
Rudolph Giuliani, "Leadership;" Colin Powell, "The Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell;" William L. Maher, "A Shepherd in Combat Boots."
