Overnight Briefing & General Reality Check - Feb 28, 2012

Top talkables of the day:
Today is National Pancake Day. For the seventh consecutive year, visitors to the International House of Pancakes will be served up a "short stack" of free buttermilk pancakes, and in return, the company hopes they'll make a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Donations are strictly voluntary. The folks at IHOP hope to raise $2.7 million dollars this year, bringing the total to more than $10 million.
FYI: To find the location of one of the more than 15-hundred participating IHOPs, head HERE.
Some factoids about last year's National Pancake Day:
--IHOP served four million free pancakes on National Pancake Day 2011 and pancake lovers donated more than $2.5 million to children’s charities, exceeding the fundraising goal of $2.3 million.
--All of the free pancakes served on National Pancake Day 2011 would create a stack nearly 16 miles high.
--Since the inception of National Pancake Day in 2006, IHOP has raised nearly $8 million and given away more than 14 million pancakes to support charities in the communities in which it operates.
--National Pancake Day 2011 was IHOP’s largest one-day event in the company’s 53-year history.
Sucking the life out of the wire services:
Less than 24 hours after the Oscars telecast, ANGELINA JOLIE’s right leg has gone viral. Since Sunday night, the awkward pose she struck every chance she got to show off the slit in her Versace gown has taken over the Internet. Gawker.com says the Angie’s Right Leg “meme” now has its own Twitter account (@AngiesRightLeg). And Photoshopped images popping up everywhere on social networking sites:
--Leg-bombing: What if Angie’s Leg got peppersprayed?
--What if she showed both legs?
--What if AL ROKER did that pose? (Link here.)
Editor’s Note/Phone Starter:She’s Angelina Jolie. She doesn’t need to try so hard. Did you think she looked silly? Have you ever posed for a picture that you later regretted? (Bartha)
Meanwhile, "Fashion Police" comedienne JOAN RIVERS told RadarOnline, “Angelina... looked like a fool the way she posed... Have you ever seen anybody stand with their hand on a hip with a leg thrown out to open an envelope? No. and you want to say, 'You idiot! You brought us back to the fact and we’ve all forgotten that you used to wear blood around your neck and French kiss your brother'!”
JENNIFER LOPEZ’s stylist insists nothing slipped out of place during her presentation of the best costume design award at the Oscars Sunday night. Social networking sites went berserk when it appeared that one of J-Lo’s breasts was peeking just a tiny little bit out of her ZUHAIR MURAD-designed gown. Her stylist told Entertainment Weekly that “the dress fit perfectly... there were cups built in and there’s no chance that there were any --how do you say?-- slips.” So there you have it.
Editor’s Note: If the stylist responsible for putting J-Lo in that embarrassing dress says there was no nip-slip, then it must be true. But let’s take a lookat the tape one more time, just to be sure. (Bartha)
By the way: Somebody also created a Twitter account for J-Lo's not-so-bashful private part... very funny and more than 85 tweets and around three-thousand followers so far. Click HERE (@JLosNipple) to check it out. (RB)
Sunday night's “84th Annual Academy Awards” was a big draw for ABC. Overnight Nielsens say more than 39 million viewers tuned in to the show, which was ABC’s most-watched telecast in two years. And, while we're on the subject, this year's Oscars was the highest rated in the last four years, which probably goes to show just how big a draw BILLY CRYSTAL was as a host.
Nipple sidebar: that hint of nipple while JENNIFER LOPEZ was presenting the award for Best Costume Design and Makeup awards with CAMERON DIAZ (see Celebrity News, above) was the most-viewed moment among TiVo DVR users. TiVo says 14.1 percent more people watched the segment than the average for the rest of the show.
Ladies: Your boyfriend thinks you're fatter than you are. How messed up is that!
Asking a group of a thousand men to put women in weight categories, Danish researchers found that many men called women overweight, even when they weren't.
On average, researchers said it only took a BMI score of 22.59 for the men to start assessing their partner as overweight, even though it takes a BMI score of 25 or more to be considered overweight.
Editor's note: Does this survey make my butt look big? (Maiman)
