What's Poppin':
And now, for a completely unscientific survey, a new study finds that if you love BMWs, Dunkin' Donuts, and Subway, you just might be a Republican. Democrats, meanwhile, prefer Jeeps, Starbucks, and Wendy's.
Researchers clocked the reactions of four thousand people to various brands, and found a divide between left and right.
"People," the claim, "will gravitate toward brands that have values that are reflective of who they are or who they want to be."
The minds behind the study see similarities between party thinking and marketing strategy: Republicans give Allstate insurance the thumbs up, for instance; the researchers think its slogan, "mayhem is everywhere," aligns with the GOP's message that Obama will ruin the country if given four more years. Amusingly, he applies the same logic to Subway (GOP) and Wendy's (Dem): The former is all about giving you choice in your sandwich, while the latter offers set options for your meal.
So what can the two parties agree on? Coca-Cola, Google, Apple and Visa.Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
JUSTIN BIEBER has a controlling streak a mile-wide. MIKE WALKER from the National Enquirer reports the heartthrob was all set to grab dinner with girlfriend SELENA GOMEZ, but noticed she was wearing five-inch platform heels. The flatironed wonder thought the pumps were a bit "dumb" for the casual date, she refused to change and they wound up staying home. (Lee)
On, off and way-off Broadway:
Four words you thought you'd never hear: MIKE TYSON on Broadway.
Believe it. The former heavyweight champeen has extended his co-starring role from the "Hangover" movies and will be bringing his one-man show, "Undisputed Truth," to Broadway for a limited, six-night engagement at the Longacre Theatre.
Playbill.com says the gig will begin previews Jul 31, with an opening scheduled for Aug 02, and none other than SPIKE LEE will be directing the show.
"I will just be telling [my] story," Tyson told Playbill. "People have said the story mesmerizes."
PS: For you radio station promotion-minded people, a limited number of $300 VIP tickets, including a post-performance meet and greet and photo with Iron Mike, are also available via Telecharge.com.The Reel Deal:
How badly do you want to be first to see the new "Batman" film, "The Dark Knight Rises"?
Tickets for the first, midnight showings are now going for as much as $150 on the internet --specifically, scalpers on eBay and Craigslist.
Tickets for that "Dark Knight" trilogy --showings of all three pictures, winding up with the midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," are going for even more.
And here's a shocker --if you can wait until later in the day, you can still get a ticket at the normal price.Off the beaten path:
The government of Thailand is demanding an explanation from the producer of a TV show which aired footage of a female contestant painting topless (video).
Reports say the contestant on "Thailand's Got Talent" removed her shirt and bra before pouring paint all over her upper body. Then, she rubbed herself on the canvas as the audience cheered. The show's producer refused to comment. (Still) -
