I'm a Poll Man:
The latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll gives PRESIDENT OBAMA a 48-to-44-percent lead nationally over MITT ROMNEY among registered voters. In a smaller sample of registered voters in 12 key battleground states, the president leads Romney 49-to-46-percent.
Not much has really changed as a whole. As usual, the president lead with African-Americans, Latinos, women and younger voters, while Romney is ahead with whites, rural voters and senior citizens. (Pacelli)Culture Shock:
The L-A Times takes note of a study on American food from the Natural Resources Defense Council with some eye-popping facts and figures on waste:
--About 40 percent of food in the U-S supply chain goes uneaten
--A family of four tosses $2,275 worth of food each year, which translates into 20 pounds per person each month
--Americans waste 50 percent more food today than in the 1970s, and 10 times as much as people in Southeast Asia
--Supermarket produce aisles are bountiful at a cost: Some $15 billion in fruits and vegetables goes unsold each year
--Uneaten food is the single biggest component of municipal solid waste in landfills

DONALD TRUMP and ROSIE O'DONNELL being NICE to each other? Has the world turned upside down?
Yesterday, after finding out Rosie was recovering from a heart attack, The Donald took time to tweet "@Rosie, get better fast. I'm starting to miss you!"
Rosie replied "@realDonaldTrump @Rosie - well thank u donald - i must admit ur post was a bit of a shock ... r u trying to kill me ? xx"
The exchange of public niceties is a bit strange, considering their past history. Rosie slammed Trump's decision to axe TARA CONNER from the Miss USA Pageant. And the latest shot was when OPRAH cancelled Rosie's show on her network and Trump said, "Rosie fails at everything... I just don't understand now, somebody else, some moron will come and hire her again to do something else but that will fail," Trump said. "At some point, let her go away. She'll never make it. And I've said it for years, she'll never make it."Labor Day is starting to outpace Black Friday in terms of the best deals.
When it comes to discounts, one usually expects Black Friday and Cyber Monday to top the list, but according to new data from Racked.com, they're actually closer to the bottom.
Here's the breakdown:
--Labor Day: 48.4%
--President's Day: 46.7%
--Columbus Day: 45.2%
--New Year's Day: 44.2%
--Independence Day: 43.5%
--Memorial Day: 42%
Black Friday averaged merely between 41 and 42 percent off. (AB)Off the beaten path:
The winner of Finland's annual Cellphone Throwing Contest is a teenager.
The NY Post says the unidentified teen flung his phone almost 333-feet. He beat out 50 other contestants. His secret? The kid admits he got drunk right before the contest. (Still) -
