Stars and their movies:
Actor PETER FALK is getting a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this morning at 11:30 (Pacific). ED BEGLEY, Jr and PAUL REISER will be speaking at the ceremony at 6654 Hollywood Blvd. Peter's long-time friend, JOE MANTEGNA, is accepting the honor on behalf of Peter's family, and coincidentally, his star is just one star away from Peter's. As you probably know, Peter died in 2011 at age 83.
Losers in Lockup:
A man in Brooksville, Florida, was arrested for helping to put out a fire --sort of.
Cops thought it seemed suspicious when JOSEPH BRANNEN showed up moments after a blaze broke out at the local library. Even more suspicious: the guy was dressed in full firefighter gear even though he's not a fireman. His behavior was so weird, cops say they investigated and discovered it was Brannen that started the fire in the first place. Prosecutors think he set the fire just so he could play firefighter.
The library blaze did a half-million dollars in damage. (Still)Like you really care:
BEN AFFLECK is bound and determined not to raise another spoiled Hollywood princess. GossipCenter.com features photos of Mr. JENNIFER GARNER teaching their seven-year-old daughter VIOLET how to wash the windows on dad's 1966 red Chevelle.
Phone starter: It's not right, but sooooo easy to spoil your kids. Do your little bundles of joy receive an allowance? What do they do to earn it? (Lee)The Airlines:
A poll from this month's issue of Travel + Leisure magazine found the frequent flyer's least favorite seatmates.
Seven percent said that their least favorite seatmate was the nervous flyer, twenty-eight percent hated the chatterer, thirty-one blamed the armrest hog for terrible flights, but the most hated --at thirty-four percent-- was the new parent with a baby. (AB)Political Racket /Dirty Tricks:
Yesterday the Senate passed a controversial plan to restructure government student loans, which recently experienced a hike in interest rates.
More than a dozen Democrats voted against the White House-backed legislation, saying that by tying interest rates to market prices, students will end up paying more in the long run.
As a compromise, a bipartisan group of lawmakers negotiated a cap on the interest, though they're still higher than current rates.
The measure passed 81–18. (Maiman)Lowering expectations:
Locals in Cocoa Beach, Florida, aren't thrilled with their neighbor's makeshift nudist camp.
The unidentified man allegedly converted his home into the so-called "Alta Vista Hilltop Retreat," offering rooms and a clothing-optional pool for 99-bucks a night. Residents have hired lawyers to shut the guy down. (Still) -
