PRESIDENT OBAMA created a lot of buzz yesterday after appearing on "Between Two Ferns," the absurdist faux-cable-access talk show hosted by "Hangover" star ZACH GALIFIANAKIS.
Found on the website, Funny or Die, Galifianakis' goal is to make his subjects feel uncomfortable. Celebs from JENNIFER LAWRENCE to BRUCE WILLIS to JUSTIN BEIBER have appeared.
A little history: Last summer, the show's executive producer approached the White House with the idea that Obama appear on the show to promote the Affordable Care Act.
Surprisingly, the president went for it. Even more surprisingly, the result, which was released yesterday morning (and which you can watch here), works pretty well not only as a pitch for Obamacare, which gets an extensive plug, but also as an episode of "Between Two Ferns."
Obama gave as good as he got. First question: "In 2013, you pardoned a turkey. What do you have planned for 2014?"
Obama's response: "We'll probably pardon another turkey. Was that depressing to you? Seeing a turkey taken out of circulation that you couldn't eat?"
Galifianakis says at one point, "It must kinda stink, though, that you can't run [for president] three times."
"No," said Obama. "I actually think it's a good idea. If I ran a third time, it would be sort of like doing a third 'Hangover' movie. Didn't really work out very well, did it?"
As of last night, the video had been viewed over 10 million times.Guilty Pleasures:
No winner in Tuesday night's drawing for the Mega Millions Lottery. That means Friday night's drawing is valued at $353 million ($194 million cash value). Mega Millions is played in 43 states, Washington DC and the US Virgin Islands. Chances of winning the big prize are 1 in 258.9 million.
Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
CAMERON DIAZ is tired of dealing with wannabe matchmakers. RadarOnline.com reports the 41-year-old stunner is fed up with friends trying to sell her on the idea of Mr. Right and has no problem pointing out that she's very happy, not to mention loaded to the gills with $50-million-bucks in the bank. (Lee)
Grace notes:
KEITH RICHARDS has written a children's book. Ok, stop laughing! It's true! The idea for "Gus and Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar," came from a story Keith told in his memoir, "Life." His daughter, 28-year-old THEODORA, did all the illustrations. She studied at the New York Academy of Art and the School of Visual Arts. The book will be out on September 9th. (Marino)
Editor's note: Best part, when your kids are done with it, you can smoke it.
--Surprised it wasn't called, "The Rock Musician Whose Body Contains the Cure to Every Disease Known to Mankind." (Maiman) -
