What's the Buzz:
There's a total lunar eclipse tonight... the first one in more than three years.
The eclipse will peak around 3 am (Eastern) and be visible throughout the US and the Western Hemisphere... if you're really curious, head over to the US Naval Observatory's website and check out the link which lets you figure out exactly when the eclipse will happen.
Basically, the Earth gets exactly lined up between the sun and the moon, which means the moon will have a deep orange or reddish glow for over an hour. Thanks to the refraction of light through the Earth's atmosphere, the moon never goes entirely dark.Prom night is a rite of passage for many, and Kentucky Fried Chicken wants to be there!
KFC has debuted the first chicken drumstick corsage, because if there's one thing teenage girls love, it's getting fried chicken juice all over their expensive dresses.
For just $20, buyers will receive a corsage kit from Nanz & Kraft, a Louisville, KY, florist, which includes a $5 KFC gift card that can be used for a drumstick of one's choice --Extra Crispy, Kentucky Grilled Chicken or Original Recipe. (You're advised to get whichever best matches the dress. We suggest whatever's least greasy.)
You buy the chicken, attach it to the corsage, and you're good to go!
Only a limited edition of 100 chicken corsages are available, because as the florist's website says, "Just like the last piece of chicken in the bucket, when they're gone, they're gone."
And, just in case you're worried about the flowers, Nanz and Kraft says their local corsages have fresh baby's breath but the out-of-town corsages have silk baby's breath.
KFC's video for the promotion depicts a young man leaning in for the kiss during a slow dance. His date leans in too ... but for some bites of the real live drumstick attached to her corsage. (Maiman)Sucking the life out of the wire services:
Add LIZA MINNELLI's name to the long list of ANNE HATHAWAY haters. Insiders tell the National Enquirer the "Les Mis" star really wants to portray JUDY GARLAND on the big screen, but her outlandish daughter would rather see LADY GAGA or KATIE HOLMES tackle the role. Apparently Anne is borderline desperate about the situation and has been "begging" for a meeting. (Lee)
On, off and way off-Broadway:
BARACK OBAMA and his wife MICHELLE took in a Broadway show Friday night.
The President and First Lady got good seats and a standing ovation as they checked out the revival of "A Raisin In The Sun" at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
The play --which is in a limited run thru Jun 15-- stars DENZEL WASHINGTON and is set in Chicago's South Side --where the First Couple currently has a home.Broadcast, cable and video news:
LINDSAY LOHAN guest-stars on "Two Broke Girls" tonight. You've been warned.
Stars and their movies:
Wanna be in the sequel to the SYFY movie, "Sharknado"?
Producers for the movie say they're trying to raise $50-thousand dollars for a bonus scene for the movie that includes "chainsaws being used in the vicinity of sharks." So they've decided to finance that scene through a crowd-funding website, IndieGoGo, and one of the gifts with purchase is getting to be an extra in the film.
Of course, there's all sorts of levels to contribute to the film:
--For $45, they'll name a shark that appears in the movie after you.
--If you fork over $120 bucks, they'll record your scream to be heard in a scene
--$5-thousand bucks gets you a walk-on with either a death scene or a heroic scene
"Sharknado 2," which is scheduled to be on SYFY Jul 31, will star MARK McGRATH, KELLY OSBOURNE, ANDY DICK and VIVICA A. FOX. And maybe you. -
