If you're headed to Morning Show Boot Camp in Chicago, later this week, look me up and let's get together!
Anniversaries:
First atomic bomb dropped in anger, on Hiroshima, Japan, 1945. Some quick trivia, courtesy of Harper's magazine:
--Percentage of Americans who don't know that Hiroshima was the site of the first atomic-bomb attack: 35.
--80-thousand people died on impact, another 20-thousand later from radiation poisoning. Today, the average warhead contains about 25-50 times more destructive power than the Hiroshima atomic bomb.I'm a Poll Man:
Fifty-one-percent of Americans surveyed in a new Washington Post/ABC News poll disapprove of the way their own representative in Congress is "handling his or her job." Forty-one-percent approve of how their member handles his or her work, the lowest approval rating that the Post and ABC have found. It's the first time in 25 years that the number of Americans who disapprove of their own Congress member has risen to more than 50 percent.
Democrats are seeing more favorable ratings than Republicans. Forty-nine-percent of those polled said that they have a "favorable impression of the Democratic Party," while just 35-percent answered the same for the GOP. (Pacelli)Filling a need:
Are you getting tired of staring at the old Magnavox in the family room? Ready for the latest in video technology? Hope you've been saving your pennies! PerezHilton.com reports the brainiacs over at Samsung just released a brand-new curved television that provides an enhanced viewing experience and is "more immersive" than a plain old flat-screen.
Unfortunately, this product isn't for your average couch potato --the 78-inch version is available on pre-order for a mere $34-thousand dollars. (Lee)Shopping Around:
Have you ever looked at your manicure and said to yourself, "Man, I wish I could paint my walls this color?"
Well, you're in luck! Nail polish company OPI has teamed up with Clark+Kensington paints and Ace Hardware to launch a line of interior paints that match it's popular polishes. Now you too can have your living room painted to match "I Eat Mainely Lobster," "Miami Beet," or "Do You Lilac It?"
Editor's note: And if you accidentally scuff your walls, you can easily patch it up while re-doing your mani as well. (AB)Models:
OLIVIA WILDE is getting a lot of attention for her newest Glamour magazine fashion spread. In one picture, Olivia is shown with her Prada dress draped down and baring her shoulder so she can breastfeed her son, Otis. Olivia says, "Breast-feeding is the most natural thing. I don't know, now it feels like Otis should always be on my breast. It felt like we were capturing that multifaceted woman we've been discussing --that we know we can be. You can be someone who is at once maternal and professional and sexy and self-possessed." (Bartha)
Grace notes:
MARIANNE FAITHFUL claims she knows who killed JIM MORRISON. That's right, KILLED! She toldMojo magazine that her former boyfriend, drug dealer Jean de Breteuil went to see Jim that fateful night at the singer's apartment in Paris. Marianne says Jean gave Jim heroin that was way too strong for him to handle, and he overdosed on it. Marianne said (quote), "I mean I'm sure it was an accident. Poor bastard. The smack was too strong? Yeah. And he died. And I didn't know anything about this. Anyway, everybody connected to the death of this poor guy is dead now. Except me." Jim was found dead in his bathtub on July 3rd, 1971. He was just 27 years old. An autopsy was never done, so there has never been an official cause of death. (Marino)
