What would National Geographic magazine look like if it was run by RUPERT MURDOCH?
That's the question everybody will be asking after 21st Century Fox picked up the National Geographic Society's magazines, websites and other media assets yesterday.
The non-profit National Geographic Society is getting $725 million in the deal, which will hand over the magazine after a run of 127 years --it was first published in 1888.
Sucking the life out of the wire services:
Teenage girls really don't need another reason to squeal with glee, but JAMES FRANCO is giving students a great opportunity as he's headed to Palo Alto High School to teach a class in film! The big-time actor revealed his plans to return to his alma mater on Instagram and says it's the "class I would have wanted" when he was a teen. (Lee)
TAYLOR SWIFT is now the most-followed person on Instagram.
NY Newsday reports Taylor just squeaks out a victory over KIM KARDASHIAN with 45.7 million followers, while Kim has "just" 45.6 million. Right on their heels is BEYONCÉ with 45 million.
Expect a runway show when MADONNA takes the stage for her upcoming "Rebel Heart" tour. Thanks to the work of costume designer ARIANNE PHILLIPS, Fashionista.com says Her Madge-ness will be strutting the stage in designs by MIUCCIA PRADA, JEREMY SCOTT, ALEXANDER WANG and Gucci's ALESSANDRO MICHELE. Looking for love in all the wrong places:
Joining the "mile-high club" is on most people's bucket list, but on Norwegian Airlines, you get the support of the entire aircraft! A young couple decided to join the club in the restroom on the flight traveling from Paris to Stockholm, Sweden. A crew member even used the PA system in the plane to congratulate them saying, "We'd like to send our best wishes of happy reproduction to the couple that ventured into the toilet earlier on." Witnesses say people started cheering and trying to figure out who it was in the bathroom.
Police weren't notified as the crew felt there was no danger but the airline would like to make it clear that they highly discourage anyone from having relations in the bathrooms. (Myers)
Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
Now that the "Straight Outta Compton" movie is a big hit, look for a follow-up about another West Coast rap group. The Los Angeles Times says "Dogg Pound 4 Life" will look at the DOGG POUND which featured a young SNOOP DOGG. DAZ DILLINGER is producing the film with DR. DRE played by his son, CURTIS YOUNG.
