It was a frigid day in Atlanta when a co-worker asked if the weather reminded me of living in New York. "Not at all," I replied. Weather is a different way of life in the Big Apple. Winter brings New Yorkers a whole new atmosphere covered in wind chills, slush, bone chilling temperatures, and snow. You can buy gloves and hats on most street corners and duck into a coffee shop for a warm-up. Windshield wash is sold by the gallon because slushy streets are the norm from pretty much November through March, sometimes even April. New Yorkers walk and train everywhere and that descent to a subway stop has frigid pedestrians over heated fast. Scarfs become unraveled and noses run.
It's no secret that weather is different in every city. My time in Minneapolis had me avoiding the windchill by walking inside a zig zagging skyway. However one friend who just transferred from a fulltime position that inolved a commute to a consulting job that allows her to work from home states regularly that she misses the team of people she works with, but not her commute. Of course, her final day of 'work' had her driving in a blizzard. It was the final ounce of confirmation she needed.
Lifestyle weather makes a difference; telling them what to wear, how to dress their kids, or when to reapply sunscreen is what listeners hear. They know 'it's cold' or 'it's hot,' they can feel that. Lend them a real umbrella and have them feel YOU.She Prep Buzz Words
