In New York City the smell of fall is in the air. Flip flops are still flipping across 42nd street, but the inevitable change of seasons is becoming evident. Plaid shirts, hoodies, corduroy and biker boots don most window displays and ladies in short shorts and sundresses are shopping. In fact, I see people shopping all the time wherever I go. Obamacare is top of mind and funds seem to be plentiful at least in "the world's greatest city." At a Walmart store this morning the woman's cart in front of me had clothes for her entire family, a case of apples, shampoo, car oil, a bathroom mat, 2 DVD's a lamp and a gift card. At a local mall the Apple store is consistently packed with shoppers and Old Navy was packed as well, I would have been included in their total sales for the day but my credit card company derailed me. Why is it that credit card companies seem to get to make the rules but barely have to abide by a standard of etiquette? They put a halt on my card due to unusual activity. I had been on vacation the last week and yes there was more activity than usual but not enough to stop my card. I hadn't been informed with a phone call and I hadn't maxed my limit. I was shocked when the clerk told me my card had been declined. I stepped out of line to call my bank and they pretty much told me what I just told you. I appreciate that they are protecting me from identity theft but shouldn't I be told when my card is not usable? Couldn't they send me a text message? I dislike finding things out the hard way. I guess Citibank is not into the warm fuzzy. On air surprises should not make her work for something either. They should be gifts that surprise and delight not cause stress. And you might want to think twice before you tell her to "charge it" or come by the station to "pick up your prize."
