Memorial Day weekend coming up! Time to beach it up. The airbrushed photos of perfect models on the covers of her favorite magazines can really throw a woman into a tizzy. Plus, they evoke negative messages to our teens. Looking healthy and staying fit makes for the best person, no matter what the season; however, now is swimsuit purchasing season, so let's help her look and feel slimmer in 14 days -- without going crazy.
Here are four ways Yahoo Fit recommends she get beach ready:
Keep eating: "If you stop eating, you might even gain weight and you'll certainly bloat up," says Christine Gerbstadt, M.D., R.D., national spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association and author of the Doctor's Detox Diet. "You'll feel puffy and flabby as your muscles waste away for two weeks," she warns.
2. Banish the bloat. Ditch carbonated drinks, artificial sweeteners and salt -- all three encourage your body to retain water (not a good thing). Then take a multi-vitamin and load up on potassium-rich foods like bananas, avocados and cantaloupe.
3. Switch up your diet. When you eat the same foods every day, your body eventually uses less energy to metabolize them. Load up on fruits and veggies you've never tried before, and seek out new seasonings, dressings and condiments (low-salt or salt-free, of course).
4. Kick up your workout. Hit all major muscle groups in one session. Then, try to squeeze in 20-30 minutes of cardio, alternating quick bursts with a recovery period. own.I'd add one to this, my number 5 would be to like yourself no matter what, and wear what feels good, and have fun in the sun regardless of body image. And sunscreen, use a lot of it.
