Hotdogs are a no fail kid pleaser in my family. Even after I explained what could be in certain 'dirty water dogs" eaten straight from a cart on Times Square, my kids don't care. Oh sure, they will eat a healthier brand I serve at home, but the straight up greasy dog suits their taste buds best. I have never liked hotdogs and learning what was inside their casing did not help. I did have a minor set back while living in Chicago, now that's my kind of dog: grilled and set inside a steamed poppyseed bun with mustard and the greenish relish you ever saw. But Chi town was my only reprieve. I finally broke down and took my kids to a famous Doggery in Atlanta and the food did not disappoint. I opted for the standard grilled chicken salad and my daughter was quickly salivating over their grill-full of juicy hot dogs, they grilled her bun as we waited when her eye caught another culinary extravaganza: fried Mac & Cheese. I learned along time ago that fried food is usually three times the fat and calories of non-fried food but this was a no brainer as far as my kid was concerned. "Kraft" is her middle name. I totally lived vicariously as she tasted the first fried Mac & Cheese triangle, "amazing" she stated, " I'd love to have this everyday after school while winding down and watching TV." Like I said, I live vicariously through her, but as she routinely sits on the couch while flipping through Teen Wolf and YouTube videos all while eating something that makes my cholesterol rise just by looking at it, I find that this habit is no where near my list of things to do or dream about doing. Oh to have her metabolism! I'd be more into a fantastic piece of pie or glass of wine with a Netflix or something on the Food Network.
