Is it really time for the pumpkin spice? Quarantine has given time a new meaning, or, lack thereof. It feels like I woke up one day in a swimsuit, and now everyone is wearing flannel. Autumn’s abrupt entrance means we are ready to get spicy. Pumpkin Spice, of course. Now that this flavor is an American cultural landmark, we return to another season to brace ourselves for the good, wacky, and weird stories that pumpkin spice offers. For example, there is currently a waitlist of more than one thousand people waiting for cups of pumpkin-spiced mac and cheese in Canada. Anyone in the States can enter a contest to get a blue box containing the classic Kraft cheese powder with added flavors like cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger, at myfoodandfamily.com. I’m not sold on the pumpkin spice addition, but I am definitely that mom that adds mashed cauliflower into the cheese without telling the kids. They did eventually find out, and now they make their own mac and cheese, so there’s a little less work for me!
The good: the classic pumpkin spice latte (you might as well), Omega PowerCreamer Keto Pumpkin Spice Creamer, now clean eaters can get spicy.
The wacky: Greenies pumpkin spice flavor dog treats, The Honest Kitchen’s “instant pumpkin spice latte for dogs.”
The weird: you can forget about the pumpkin spiced Spam, it’s already sold out. Who buys this?
