Summer reading club, anyone?
I spent my childhood summers reading page after page at The Pennsburg Library. Mrs. Meinzer was the kindest librarian, always setting aside books she knew I’d love, from plays and historical fiction, to poetry.
Kids would get paper stickers for every book read, and after we filled up our required reading map, you were awarded a coupon for a free dilly bar from the Dairy Queen, conveniently located down the street.
My daughter's summer reading included Science Club, arts and craft classes, and hundreds of adventure books, books on tape, and VHS movies from the Mount Tabor Library. We read and listened to the entire Harry Potter series, (spoiler alert) we mourned the death of Dumbledore while driving to Maryland for a summer vacation.
This summer, our activities will have an added focus of re-creating community post-COVID, whether it’s at the library, a newly opened gym or that podcast club you were about to start.
What’s your favorite summer read?
