Objective Value
April 2, 2019
Have an opinion? Add your comment below. The theory of objective value says you are worth only what you can get someone to pay you for your work. And this is where consolidation has really damaged our business, perhaps irreparably, because it has not only devalued air time, it has devalued the talent once attracted to it. It's a huge loss ... for us and for our listeners. And the only solution costs money that owners now don't seem willing to spend

What are you worth?
Objective value ... intrinsic value ... is meaningless in radio now.
Air time is worth whatever you can get someone to pay for it, and in many cities that number is decreasing and has been for decades.
The theory of objective value says you are worth only what you can get someone to pay you for your work.
And this is where consolidation has really damaged our business, perhaps irreparably, because it has not only devalued air time, it has devalued the talent once attracted to it.
That's a huge loss ... for us and for our listeners.
And the only solution costs money that owners now don't seem willing to spend.
Still, your only hope as an air talent is to keep trying to make yourself worth more, and the only way to do that is with the content you bring that comes between and after the songs.
Content that is uniquely yours, meaning uniquely YOU.
Content they can't find on the other stations in your town, nor on Pandora or Spotify or Apple Music or SiriusXM.
Yes, that means more work for you, a lot more work. But it's the only way you'll end up being worth more, rather than less.
