1. Now that we are more than half-way through the year, how has 2019 been treating you? What are some goals that you have had for yourself this year? How close are you to reaching them or did you already? What are you already excited about for 2020? This year so far has been a wild ride. From getting to work with many amazing producers and writers, to traveling and performing each week, you could say it has been a nonstop ride for sure.
In November, I'll have the privilege of emceeing the "Music From The Heart" Rock Band Showcase for teens and youth with special needs for the fifth year in a row. There are three shows that day showcasing 15 bands. My nonprofit is proud to sponsor three of the bands.
This year's goals were primarily to finish and get my debut album, "We Me," released and start sharing my messages with the world. The album just dropped and I couldn't be more excited for everyone to hear my story!
And I can't wait to start touring in 2020. I absolutely love performing live and look forward to meeting and performing for new people.
2. Growing up, how important was music in your life? Can you recall the moment when you decided that you wanted to be in this industry? Was it an easy or difficult choice to make?
I have always enjoyed singing and performing, but where I really got the bug was when I sang the national anthem when I was fifteen at an Arizona Cardinals football game. To hear the roar of 65,000 people is something I will never forget.
It's always hard to make big decisions like this, but in my heart I believe that I have a message to deliver that is important to me. So, I am going to deliver that message and I am hoping that it will touch the hearts of those that need it.
3. Was there ever a time when you thought about doing something else? If you weren't a musician today, what else could you see yourself doing?
I have thought about working in music therapy and working my nonprofit full-time. I am the happiest when I am singing and brightening someone's day, so I would be singing as a music therapies to special need children and young adults. I was doing this as a volunteer before I started singing professionally and loved every of it minute.
4. What has been the biggest surprise so far about making music your career?
That it's a hard business and the work you put in each day can be challenging but it is important and worth it in the end.
5. What has been an unexpected or welcome challenge to it all? What has been the best part about it all?
The amount of work that is involved is marking your music through social media. Coming up with posts and communicating with my fans sometimes gives me anxiety. I just try to be myself and hope that my fans appreciate that. I have issues I deal with and problems each day just like them, so if they can learn from me on how to deal with these issues we can learn together. The best part of this is that my music and message can touch so many people with today's technology.
6. Let's talk about your debut album, "With Me." What was it like putting this collection together? Did anything surprise you about the overall process?
The biggest surprise was that took a long time to put this album together. There was a 14 month period where I worked on the album and was not able to share my music with anyone. I wasn't going to school and I always had to explain myself to people that I was working on music and wasn't just goofing off.
7. What was it like working with all the different collaborators on this album? How did you get the chance to work with all of them on it?
Working with the songwriters and producers was probably the most amazing experience. My manager, Ryan Wyler, introduced me and help put together my team. When we were writing, we would get together and spitball ideas and have so much fun working together. I learned so much and will be forever grateful.
8. How do you think your single, "Later Baby, XO" prepared listeners for the rest of your album? What was the inspiration for this track?
"Later Baby, XO" is meant to be a fun track that you would want to sing along and blast with your friends. And every girl needs a break up song, right? But what I love about "Later Baby, XO" is that it's not just about a break up. The main message is to move on and that "forgiveness means to let go." I think it prepares my listeners for deeper topics I am talking about in the other songs on the album. I'm beyond thankful for Lauren Christy and Andrew Wells in creating this fun, catchy and uplifting song
I started recording when I was 15 and now I am 19, and I can say that I've had the time to learn about my voice and the music I want to be singing. I've had the chance to learn more about myself as an artist.
9. How do you feel about social media? What has social media done for your career so far?
I have learned that social media plays a huge part in an artist's career. It's the best place to gain and talk with your fans. I still believe that social media does not define a person and sometimes you can worry too much about the responses. Even though I am 19 and probably should be an expert at social media by now, I am still learning each day on what's the best way to use it as a platform for my career.
10. If you had an unlimited budget and your schedule was free, what would your dream music video look like?
Oh I would LOVE to do a music video in Santorini, Greece!! On the beach or even looking over the clear waters would be beautiful. This answer may or may not have been inspired because I just recently watched The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and it is my dream vacation, but that video would be amazing!
