1. What led you to a career in radio?
I seriously considered a radio career when I was a little kid, tearing off antennas off radios pretending to be microphones. I began my career at KCRH in 1992 under the supervision of the late Rick Strauss. I served as an on air personality and the station's PSA Director. After my first stint at KCRH, I joined the Mancow Morning Show at KYLD/
San Francisco in January 1994 until May of that year! After he left, I kept hanging in the lobby and attending various station events for a couple of years until my buddies JV, Elvis and Hollywood from the Doghouse "officially" discovered me in August 1996 and the rest is history.
2. KOHL is owned and operated by Ohlone Community College. Is it refreshing to be around up and coming broadcasters?
Yes, it's wonderful place for future radio superstars to train and learn how to become great broadcasters.
3. Where did the handle 'Hammerin' Hank' come from?
I got that name from the baseball legend "Hammerin Hank" Aaron, who will always be baseball's all-time Home Run King.
4. You cover middays a couple days a week? What do you love about still being on the air?
Playing the music and interacting with people on social media.
5. You're also the station's PSA Director. What are some of the biggest rewards from also wearing that hat?
Emailing my current boss Jeremy some recorded PSA's that should be added to the PSA rotation.
6. What's your all-time favorite backstage memory?
I got to meet a lot of comedians at several WiLD 94.9 Comedy Jam events in the early 2000's. I also got to perform comedy and everyone liked it.
7. If you could take a spin in the custom 'All Access Back To The Future Delorean,' which legendary station from the past would you like to work at for a week?
I would like to work for 1170 KLOK Radio for more than a week. It was a well-run station with good bosses.
8. What was your favorite station(s) to listen to when you were a kid? Jock(s)?
I listened to KLOK/San Jose when I was in my teens and my favorite jocks were Jim Phillips, Ralph Hasty, Don Welsh, Jona Denz Hamiliton, and Lenny Mac!
9. Who were your mentors? Who would you say has influenced your career the most?
JV, Elvis, Hollywood, Big Joe, Dreena Gonzalez, Sandra Pena, Tom Gomez, Bob Dochterman, Jeremy Mull, Graham, Selena and too many others to name.
10. What do you think is 'The Song of Summer 2023?'
I love the new Olivia Rodrigo hit "Vampire" I hope this record makes the top 5.
