1) Congrats on the new syndicated show. How did the opportunity to do it come about?
Thank you very much. I've been talking with John Garabedian for a while now. I've always admired his work and actually grew up listening to Open House Party every weekend. I always thought it sounded way too fun to be doing a national party show on the radio from your basement like John did. Since there are no basements in Texas, my office will have to do. But I have a mini-fridge in there, so it's not a stuffy kind of office. When John and Rich (O'Brien from Superadio) approached me to do the show, I was more than excited.
2) What can we expect from the new show? Any new/cool features?
My honest goal is fun, concise radio. Radio has changed a lot. Nobody wants to hear blah, blah, blah all the time. So I plan on doing a forward-moving, exciting and fun party show nightly, with big stars as guests, lots of audience interaction -- and NOT a lot of "I'm awesome" DJ-hype. I want to have fun WITH the audience, not at their expense.
3) How would you describe your first radio gig?
Lebanon, NH has a GREAT microbrewery, so I don't remember enough of it to describe.
4) What led you to a career in radio?
Guys like John Garabedian, Dale Dorman, Ed McMann, Casey Kasem and the Top 40 flamethrowers from the early-'90s.
5) If you could add one full-time position to your station's budget right now, what would it be?
Personal barista.
6) What makes your station unique? How would you compare it to other stations you've worked at?
I am so privileged to have worked for two of the most brilliant PDs in the business today. I am so grateful to Cadillac Jack, who was my PD for the majority of my time at KISS 108 in Boston. He opened my mind with every air check we had and gave me a different (and better) way to look at things. He really is a genius and without him I would be MANY steps back from where I am right now. In the present, Patrick Davis at KISS-FM here in Dallas is much the same to me. He always has such positively-constructive things to say and is so supportive of doing personality radio. I am very excited to be here working for and learning from him. Wow. That was a Sarah Palin answer, huh? Didn't answer it the way you wanted at all. Sorry.
7) Are you wearing more "hats" than you have in the past?
I've always worn hats ... preparing for the inevitable balding.
8) Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff and why do you like them?
JJ Kincaid at Z100. He nails EVERY break and makes you say "damn" no matter how long or short the break is. And Deirdre Dagata at KISS in Boston ... SUCH a great person and a great jock.
9) What artist would we be surprised to find on your iPod?
DF Dub and King Harvest
10) What's one thing that would surprise many people to learn about you?
That I own the most kick-ass celebrity blog going today. Really, it's THE perfect place to go for free showprep every day. www.dirtydirtdirt.com. Great to link to on your jock page, too. Yup. I'm THAT shameless.
