Please outline your radio career so far: (station/date, station/date, etc.)
WAQE/Rice Lake WI
WBIZ/Eau Claire WI
WQRB/Eau Claire WI
WIAL/Eau Claire WI1) How would you describe your first radio gig?
Pathetic! It was a Saturday Night Oldies Party on WAQE ...47 watts of the best from the 50's. I was 15 years old. Dad would bring me here, then wait in the parking lot eating Kwik Trip Tuna sandwiches while he listened. Meanwhile, I'd be inside, waiting for requests that never came. To amuse myself, I perfected the art of setting off a mousetrap with my pinky finger without getting snapped. I still remember how proud Momma Jordan was.
2) What led you to a career in radio?
I'd listen to Tone E. Fly doing nights at 101.3 KDWB. It was amazing, how he'd interact with listeners and make it their show as much as his. He really made a disc jockey more of a celebrity, I loved what he brought into the business and decided very young that I didn't want to be him, I wanted to someday be better than him...yeah, I'm like that.
3) It's our 10th anniversary this year. What were you doing 10 years ago?
Wow! I was just getting my driver's permit, waiting for testicle Number 2 to drop down with his buddy, Number 1. Listening to my brand new Meatloaf CD "Back Into Hell." And 10 years later, Dr. Pepper is using the song "I Would Do Anything For Love" to promote its soda, the same song I was using to promote the ladies goin' to second base.
4) What would you like to be doing 10 years from now?
Funny you should ask. I just got off the phone with Cleo -- yeah she's still kickin' it. She said that she sees me doing afternoons at KIIS (stop rolling your eyes). I'm definitely one of those people who will decide to do something and follow it up by doing everything I possibly can to achieve that goal. What? I'm constantly sending my air checks out to big market boys like Dave Styles at KIIS, Dave Foxx at Z100 ...looking for constructive comments. Some people hide from it, I seek it out. I'm sure Dr. Phil would have something to say about that.

5) What Movie or TV program best describes your life?
Napoleon Dynamite. I'm pretty much an unmotivated curly haired sex god. Not so much. It's more like the TV show, "Two Guys And A Girl." Sometimes I feel like I do lots and lots of good, making people laugh, and then I screw up and really tick off somebody. I make up for it then, rinse and repeat
6) How did you feel during those first days on this job?
"Am I going to get fired today?" I started out doing nights. To say the least I sounded like a Pug dog making sweet, sweet love to a porcupine. Fortunately my PD Beau Landry, OM Mike Cushman and GM Rick Hensley heard something promising. Plus I was really cheap!
7) Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff and why do you like them?
Kane at 93.3 WFLZ. Some things he says make me wonder if his dad owns 90% of the Clear Channel Stock. How else does he stay on the air? He's really quick-witted, and not afraid to give his opinion on things. There is no black or white with this guy, it's all just grey, and an ass load of Red Bull!
8) What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Tone E. Fly told me when I was 17 learn not to talk "AT people" talk TO them. Don't be a radio personality, be a person. In radio, you have the opportunity to be whoever you want to be. Are you "high energy"? Are you "fun"? It's up to you. It's really amazing, letting thousands of people in on your life.
9) What advice you would give to people just starting in the biz?
Keep on keepin' on, my babies. I know you've heard a lot of horror stories about radio. There are low points, just like any other business. But if you truly want to do radio, don't let it bother you. Be positive, be YOURSELF. Use YOUR VOICE. There is no such thing as a radio voice. Talk like you're telling your best friend a great story. When the listeners hear you having a good time, they'll stay around. Leave the complaining to someone else.
10) Please describe the best or worst promotion you've ever been part of?
The best promotion I think we did as a station was the Jack Ass Jack Pot. It was a Clear Channel Nationwide contest that sounded absolutely ginormous. Our catch was "You dated him, he dogged you, now hit him back where it counts, THE BANK ACCOUNT!" We had women calling in saying all sorts of stuff about people they used to date. It was great!
Bonus Questions
How did you get your on-air name?
It was the Bulls and The Jazz in the finals and I told my friends if the Bulls won, I'd be Jare E. Jordan, but if the Jazz won, I'd call myself Jare E. Malone. Good think the Bulls won - Jare E. Malone sounds like a low budget porn star
