1. How would you describe your first radio gig?
Two words: Indentured servitude.
2. What led you to a career in radio?
I wanted to take out a loan, while I was attending college. I had 12 credit hours but needed 13 to qualify. I searched the curriculum, and the only course that offered one credit hour was Radio. Of course, it didn't take long to find out why...
3. You've once again PD at WKSE, having spent the past several years programming Hot Adult sister WTSS. What's it like to be back?
One thing for sure -- it cuts into my shopping! But seriously, since joining Entercom Buffalo in 1993, I've been fortunate to have worked with an amazingly talented group of individuals.
4. What is your favorite part of the job?
Working with air talent, and the more high maintenance, the better. I love creative people who are passionate about what they do.
5. What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
THE station was WGCL Cleveland (G-98). Dancin' Danny Wright ... Joe Bohannon ... great radio!
6. Do you have a favorite hobby outside of radio?
I've got a killer veggie garden that I love to work in, as well as two ponds I've filled with Japanese koi. Of course, being in the "lake effect snow" capital, I do lots of skiing.
7. What music do you listen to when you're not working?
A pretty diverse collection, ranging from Patsy Cline to Melissa Etheridge, Mary J Blige, Chrissie Hynde, and Don Henley, who I worship. That man can write a song!
8. What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Be careful what you wish for, you might get it.
9. What advice you would give people new to the business?
Do everything ... try everything, in every department. Learn as much as you can.
10. Please describe the best or worst promotion you've ever been part of?
It wasn't the actual promotion, but rather the events leading up to it. While heading to the event, the engineer driving the broadcast truck didn't realize the mast was up - as he drove under a highway overpass. Wait, it gets better. It was raining and the promotion intern gets to the site, driving the Kiss Van, and runs right into a light pole. Good times!
Bonus Questions
