BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I worked at KSFM 102.5 right out of high school, interned for about 6 months before I was hired on as a van driver. I worked in promotions, production, mixed and received MD and on-air training along the way. I was hired on full-time as the midday host in '09. I became MD of our sister station KNCI as well as maintaining my midday position at KSFM. Following that, I became the second mic on the Morning show and then as companies were merging, I was back in the midday position at KSFM and became MD for KSFM. I was downsized after the merge and then HOT 103.7 Seattle called with an offer I could not refuse. I am now the sole female host morning show in the PNW as well as the afternoon host on 94.1 The Sound and do weekends for 106.5 The End Sacramento.
1. What got you into radio?
DJ Charlie Ramos, the baddest man on the planet! Charlie is a Sacramento legend. I grew up listening to him on KSFM. At a young age, I was obsessed with the Hip Hop culture, but deejaying was my favorite element! He was (still is) so smooth with his transitions and I loved that he would take an old record and mix it with a new record.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
I always wanted to be a back-up dancer for someone. There was a point in my life where I took breakdancing and pop-locking very seriously. Obviously, it didn’t work out, so here we are. LOL
3. I know that it's been a few years but what was the biggest change in the move from Sacramento to Seattle?
On top of not seeing family every day, the weather! The legend is that it rains here all the time, which is somewhat true. I would say, it’s gloomier here year-round. Don’t get me wrong though, I love the cool air.
4. What would probably surprise most people about Seattle? Did anything surprise you?
Well, for one thing the “Seattle Freeze” is real. People aren’t as friendly when you first approach them and I am Miss Talks-A-Lot, so that was hard for me to adjust to. Also, one thing I love about Seattle, no matter what restaurant you are at, 5-star or hole-in-the-wall, they are consistently playing Hip Hop. Like true, good underground Hip Hop!
5. Has "pandemic Bre" cooked more or stepped-up ordering from GrubHub, DoorDash, etc?
HA! I tried my best at supporting our local businesses by ordering take-out but let’s be real, I work in radio, a girl needs to pay bills. I did A LOT of cooking. It was to the point that now I have a pure hatred for doing the dishes.
6. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
Definitely a criminal psychologist. I know, super left field, right? I am extremely interested in true crime stories and why people do what they do.
7. Do you network with other female morning show leads?
I do. Since the pandemic more so than ever! Although radio took a huge hit, I feel our community is closer than ever and people from all over are connecting.
8. What do you like to do in your spare time? Any new interests since pandemic started?
I watch a lot of TV and movies, don’t worry I’m not lazy, I’m just a movie/TV junkie. If you need a new show to watch or new movie, I got you covered. I’ve also become an outdoorsy person living up here in the PNW, hiking and snowboarding are a new loves of mine. When I want to get out of the house I always jump on the ferry; the ferries in Seattle have the best views of the city plus you’re on the water.
9. Has the pandemic taught you any life lessons or lessons about yourself?
That it is okay to rest and be alone, I’m normally such a busy body. I must be everywhere all the time. Also, I love hosting and having company and the pandemic really allowed me to step back and just chill.
10. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
Family Feud! My family and I talk about it all the time, we already have our team picked out if we ever get the chance.
Bonus Questions
Does pineapple belong on pizza?
You can’t ask me this question because I LOVE PIZZA! I eat all types of pizza all times of the day, breakfast, lunch, dinner, cold or hot. Does it belong? To each their own, if you like it then enjoy, if not well your taste buds suck.
