Capital Cities
Dec 2, 2012
Formed in 2010, Los Angeles electro/rock group, Capital Cities' are duo frontmen Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian. They were jingle writers who first met on Craigslist. They have since been joined by guitarist Nick Merwin, bassist Manny Quintero and trumpeter Spencer Ludwig.
They released their debut EP in 2011 and their lead single "Safe And Sound" shot to #2 on Hype Machine, #1 on CMJ's A&R chart and #1 on South American radio. It's an easy, breezy, beautiful slice of effervescent electro-pop that even comes complete with a massive 'trumpets-in-da-club' bit. The song has catchy indie stylings and features the beloved vintage Juno-106 keyboard that gives the production such a comforting retro vibe.
Their music swarms with outside-of-the-box tendencies and is jam-packed full of life, energy and unusual yet fantastic sounds. Capital Cities is also known for their shamelessly catchy and intelligent pop tunes. An endless string of blogosphere favorites have been following them and helping the band reach fans across the globe. They've thrilled sellout crowds in the U.S., Canada, Europe and South America, sharing the stage with Grouplove, The Killers, and more. In November 2012, Capitol Records inked a deal with Capital Cities.
