1. How did you become interested in radio?
I had a stereo/record player in my room by the time I was two. When I was 10 I made my first tape. It was the one career path my parents discouraged. I used to aircheck Sean Demery of 99X before I even knew that's what it was called and mimic every word of Rebecca Stevens on B98.5 in Atlanta.
2. What part of your job do you like best?
I have met some of the most interesting, creative, and talented people -- that doesn't just apply to the artists.
3. What led you to 96Wave?
Alex DeMers is king
4. What would an outsider find most surprising about Charleston?
It smells like a gym sock on fire -- foot still attached.
5. Explain how the station has changed musically?
We have gone back to 96Wave's rock roots. The station had gone so far out it alienated the listeners. We have made it more familiar and hit-driven, but plan to open that up as well. 96Wave has a history of stepping out on artists and that is also something we will continue to embrace. Elvis Costello is out; Silversun Pickups is in.
6. What makes your station unique?
We have an extensive history that allows and encourages us to take chances. 96Wave listeners are very music savvy. We branch out in our specialty programs and features with everything from Dean Martin to Mastodon.
7. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _________?
Electricity and a voice. I learned that a few weeks ago when they both disappeared on me on the same day.
8. What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Live the lifestyle.
9. What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
99X/Power 99 trained me well.
10. What career path would you be following had it not been for this industry?
Working in an animal shelter smelling like a gym sock on fire -- foot still attached.
Bonus Questions
What are your hobbies?
Gardening, my dogs, and driving until I have gotten lost where I am.
