10 Questions with ... Corey B
February 26, 2019
Have an opinion? Add your comment below. I've been grinding on social media for about 5 years now. I grew tired of watching funny videos on Vine and Facebook. I would catch myself spending hours watching these creators. It got to a point where I thought "why am I wasting my time watching them, when I could be one of them". I started making viral videos, all topical, all original. I built my fan page from 3,000 followers to over 1.9 million on FB. The videos didn't just benefit me but the stations I've worked for. I guess I made a name for myself and each station saw a value in that. Well that and I know how to hit my post on a break. lol

BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Started as a part-timer in Tampa at WFLZ. Landed first full-time gig in New Orleans at B97. Ran a successful night show for 4 years then was picked up by B96 in Chicago and did nights for 2 years. Now in the Big Apple
1. How did you become interested in radio?
I was always one of those kids that didn't do too well in school, not because I wasn't smart but because I couldn't keep my mouth shut. I had a teacher tell me "you better hope you can find a career in entertainment because you can't stop yapping." About 10 years after that I found myself managing a cell phone store when a customer of mine stopped me mid-sentence and said, "What are you doing working here? You have a great voice, you speak very well and you don't look like a pile of trash, you should be doing something BIGGER with your life." That stuck with me. At the time the night guys Rat Boy and Stay Puff at 93.3FLZ were looking for interns, or anyone that could help them out at their yearly event Stuff A Bus. I obliged. I worked as their intern for about 2 years and the rest is history.
2. You previously worked at two big Entercom Top 40 stations -- B97/New Orleans and B96/Chicago -- and had a goal to make it to New York City. What led to you landing PM-drive at ALT 92.3?
SOCIAL MEDIA. Social media runs EVERYTHING these days and I've been grinding on social media for about 5 years now. Well that and I know how to hit my post on a break. lol
3. Tell us about afternoons from 2-6p with Corey on ALT 92.3.
Afternoons on ALT is great, it's a dream come true. I've always been a TOP 40 jock and found the transition to Alternative be quite seamless. Not to mention a change of music is quite refreshing. Our listeners LOVE this station, the music and what we stand for. It's an awesome feeling,
4. How would you describe your on-air style?
Energetic, Topical, "witty" and engaging.
5. What's it like working with Mike Kaplan?
Mike's an awesome PD and leader. He's honest and blunt as it should be. You f**k up and he'll call you out on the spot, he'll remind you that "You're in NYC". He's right, this is the BIG TIME! The guy's smart.
6. What is your show prep routine?
Google, Google and Consequence of Sound.
7. What do you love most about your job?
The freedom to be yourself, not work 9-5 stuck at a desk and the ability to let the creative juices flow.
8. Who is your favorite on-air personality not on your staff and why do you like them?
Besides Rat and Puff, it's Elvis Duran. The guy's found a way to make millions just being himself.
9. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without __________________?
Making my son giggle, it's the best sound ever.
10. What is a typical weekday like for you?
Wake up, breakfast with the fam, record and edit a video for my social media pages, hop on a Citi bike and ride to work, show prep for about 30 minutes to an hour, do my shift, ride home, dinner with the fam and sink into the couch while I plan content for the next day's video.
