Have an opinion? Add your comment below. I am all about showcasing new music, in fact it’s become one of my favorite bragging rights. I get to play the most new music at night and I love exposing new artists to our audience. I also love the interaction with my city and getting to know the ALT 98.7 audience beyond the surface. I genuinely have so much fun getting our listener’s opinions on various local topics, I don’t think any audience has made me laugh harder or put me on to cool new spots or hidden gems throughout the city.

BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started as a phone screener for Mornings with Carson Daly on 97.1 AMP Radio and was eventually promoted to Assistant Producer in addition to becoming the Director of Content/Social Media for CD’s nationally syndicated show “The Daly Download with Carson Daly.” After 5 years doing mornings, I landed my first on air gig doing middays at KHTI Hot 103.9, an independently owned HAC station in San Bernardino. A year and a half later I was called back to AMP to do weekends/fill-in until landing the midday spot. Currently I am the night host on ALT 98.7.
1. How did you first become interested in radio?
I grew up listening to the radio everyday commuting to school but honestly never considered it as a career. I instantly fell in love with radio during my first phone-op shift. I loved interacting with the listeners, creating content on and off the air, sharing new music and discovering new things about my hometown through our vast audience.
2. Born and raised in L.A., what was your biggest takeaway getting your start with Carson Daly.
Biggest takeaways were to always be myself, to not be afraid of being raw because it’s an important element in maintaining authenticity and relatability and to approach interviews as a conversation.
3. How did you feel about moving from Top 40 KAMP middays to ALT 98.7 nights?
I knew in my gut it was the right move for me and an exciting one. The Alternative territory was only new career wise. I’ve always been a fan of the music and am really happy and appreciative to be in a space where I could share another side of myself and get to know a new audience while bonding over music that we love.
4. Give us the 411 on your night show from 7p-midnight on ALT 98.7.
5. How would you describe your on-air style?
I let my emotions drive the car and keep things as real as possible. I’m conversational and approach each break as if I were talking to my oldest, closest friend. I like personalizing the experience and hope to make each listener feel like I’m speaking directly to them one-on-one.
6. What is your show prep routine?
I legit scour the internet all throughout the day flagging an assortment of topics, mostly local and music related stuff, and jot everything down in my notebook which helps me map out my show each night. I also spend a lot of time on Instagram which is where I get most of my artist related news and random poll topic ideas to engage and interact with listeners.
7. What do you love most about being on-air?
1000% the connection with listeners. I’ve always been a people person and enjoy having conversations, whether it’s a quick chat or a full on Ted Talk. I never take exchanging energy with others for granted and I’m lucky to get to do that on the daily.
8. What is a typical workday like for you?
LOTS of prep leading up to my show and throughout. My workdays always feel like they fly by, between recording/editing calls to play back on the air, keeping up with our text line, posting on social media and doing breaks it’s pretty non-stop once I get in the studio.
9. How are you using social media to augment what you’re doing on-air?
By plugging my show each day before, during and even after I’ve signed off, but also sharing what I do outside the studio and realm of radio. I love my job but like everyone else, there’s more to me than what I do for work and it’s important to me that I share that as well. It’s a delicate balance that I still haven’t mastered but I’m proud of the progress I’ve made so far. I like being able to connect with people in various ways and if I gain a listener or two based on something I posted whether it’s related to my show or not, then I’ve done good.
10. What would surprise people most about you?
That I almost took a completely different career route. My first job ever was at the Institute for Genetic Medicine on USC’s health science campus in East LA. I was the only high school student working in a research lab because at the time I thought I wanted to get into medicine and even got accepted into college as a BioSci major. Didn’t take long for me to realize that was not for me, I changed my major so many times in college.
