You probably already know this, but in case you don’t, an important part of storytelling is adding “THE WHY” to the story. Recently someone I coach shared a great story about preferring a physical book over a Kindle. But she never explained WHY.
WHY A BOOK IS AMAZING
I encouraged her to consider creating a short scene that takes the listener on a journey of how it felt…
…opening the mail and first seeing and touching the book.
…thumbing through the pages and describing the smell as she inhaled years of nostalgia …which is one of her favorite smells.
…sitting down on a quiet winter evening under a cozy blanket on her favorite spot on the couch as she started to read page one.
HERE’S THE TAKEAWAY
If you watch anything on TV today, may it be Food Network. Here’s WHY.
Show after show you’ll see hosts explain WHY the bite they just took was so delicious. They’ll describe the amazing texture, depth of flavors, and maybe even an unexpected kick.
Try to implement this concept on your radio station or show. Find the WHY in your stories, and then share the WHY. I bet you’ll have listeners coming back for seconds.
