Introducing Ayiesha Woods (2006)1) Can you pick a highlight from the past two years, since your first album debuted?
A highlight in my life since my first project debuted is on a more personal level. I became a homeowner and it's probably one of the biggest milestones of my life. It feels great and it's not too far away from my parents! Ha ha!
2) Do you have any interesting or funny stories from your visits with radio folks in the past year or so?
I visited a station in Nashville where they conducted a live interview and after I sang, they had me attempt to hula hoop and then throw a hula hoop over one of the staff persons' head. It was a blast. I did okay at the latter. I can't hula hoop for ANYTHING!!
3) What's the story behind the single "Love Can't Wait"?
"Love Can't Wait" is a call to action and a call to awareness. We're in a state of emergency. Jesus said that they will know that you are my disciples by the love we have one for the other. And it's important now, more than ever for us to show the love of God to those that know him and those that do not. We simply have to recognize the importance of showing love. It can't wait.
4) Do you have a favorite song to perform live?
One of the songs that I love to perform live when incorporated in our shows is "What You Do to Me" from my first record. That song is simply a worship song from my heart to the Father.
5) Which do you enjoy more the process or the performance?
I enjoy both writing AND performing the songs that God gives me. When writing a song, it ministers to me. When performing a song, it ministers to both me and others! So I would have to say PERFORMANCE. Because more than just "me" gets ministered to! [Smile]
6) What is the message you hope to convey through the new album "Love Like This"?
I hope that through "Love Like This" people will be challenged to explore the any aspects of God's love and see how it is that his love is evident in EVERYTHING we do and experience in this life.
7) Describe working with the Women of Faith events.
Working with Women of Faith was one of the most amazing experiences for me and my career. It not only added to my life spiritually, but just on a general note, being around such amazing, wonderful, accomplished women certainly encouraged me to become a better individual all around. It was great to be able to learn the things I did from them, but to also be given the platform to share what it is that I believe God wanted to convey through me.
8) What's your favorite song on the new record?
My favorite songs change as the weeks go by. This week, my favorite song on the new record is "New Beginnings!" I love it because we're in 2008 and "8" is the number of new beginnings!
9) As you're in the studio working on this new album, was there a moment where you thought, "Wow, now we have a record"?
I certainly was relieved when we were finally finished. I actually just recently got to hear the final mix and I love it, love it, love it! [Smile]
10) Do you have much time to check out other artists' music? What are you listening to right now?
Right now, I CANNOT stop listening to an AWESOME indie band I heard at a festival called Reilly. Their sound is fresh, unique and very encouraging! I love those guys and I hope for God's best in all of their pursuits.
