DecembeRadio (2006)1) Introduce the members of the band using personality traits?
Erik: When he's playing or concentrating, he has this neck cracking motion thing. He's the outdoorsman that loves to fish. He's determined.
Josh: He always wears his sunglasses, even inside. He's also the gamer of the group and has a great knack for sleeping in vehicles.
Brian: He makes up words and can be spaced out.
Boone: He has a fascination for Chuck Norris, is an insomniac and loves to work out.
2) Can you offer a brief look at how the band started and eventually signed with Slanted?
Josh and Brian had been playing together as kids. They met Boone and Erik, connecting with producer Scotty Wilbanks shortly thereafter. There were some side projects going on but we all came together to do this as DecembeRadio.
3) What's the message you hope is conveyed through the new album "Satisfied"?
Satisfaction. It's about being satisfied with who you are in God, in Jesus. You can never be satisfied with who you are alone. The relationship we have with God is the only thing that will ever satisfy us. The music, lyrics and soul of this record as a whole are about not being afraid to be who you are.
4) What is your favorite city/venue to play?
Gibson Amphitheatre in L.A. or Royal Albert Hall. We also enjoyed playing a festival in Norway.
5) Is there any special story behind the radio single "For Your Glory"? Why was this song chosen to be the first radio single off the new project?
It was Chris Hauser. He is offering "devil free music." (It doesn't mention the devil like a single from the first record did.)
No, really, this is a vertical, worshipful tune that talks about doing everything for God's glory. Don't let life get in the way, don't let time slip away.
6) Do we feel another Grammy nomination coming? What was that experience like this past year?
It was an incredible but definitely a humbling experience.
7) Was there a moment in the studio, working on the record, that you thought, "Ah-ha! Wow. Now we have a record!"?
We were getting down to the end of recording. We had two more songs and we just came in and wrote them in three days. But they were exactly what the album needed. They shifted the album away from just guitar riffs to great songs.
8) What's your favorite song to play live?
Brian: "Gasoline"
Josh: "Satisfy Me"
Erik: "Believer"
Boone: "Live and Breathe"
9) If you weren't doing music, what would you be doing?
Josh: Build choppers
Boone: Fitness
Brian: Start a business
Erik: Host of an outdoor show
10) Life on the road isn't a cakewalk. How do you remain friends while being co-workers?
Well, we're not friends. Kidding. We are friends. Our personalities mesh real well. We're so different that it keeps it interesting. We balance each other out. We have a good time but we also know how to get down to business. Overall, we dig playing with each other.
