Discography:
Came into the industry as a concert promoter in 1986, started a Christian nightclub in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas. In 1991, I formed GOA, Inc., one of Christian music's foremost booking agencies for artists, including 4HIM, NewSong, Mark Schultz and Big Daddy Weave.
1) What made you want to get into the music business?
I had a Christian night club/coffeehouse in the Dallas/Fort Worth area; I started that in 1986.
2) What are some of the interesting things happening at GOA right now?
We're very excited about several new artists that we have recently signed: Jimmy Needham, Ayiesha Woods, Group 1 Crew and Rush of Fools. Ayiesha will be on both "Woman Of Faith" and the "Revolve" tours in 2007 and 2008. Group 1 Crew is gaining international attention with trips planned this year to Guatemala and The Netherlands.
3) What do you think is the most important topic facing the music industry right now?
Record labels surviving and thriving in a digital world, difficulty in breaking new artists in today's changing market, and remembering the reason we do what we do is to bring the light of Christ to a world that needs him.
4) How are radio and booking agencies doing, working together?
There is always room for improvement; however, we at GOA are booking concerts with Christian radio more than ever!
5) In a highly competitive music field, how do you position yourself and your company to get your artists the shot they need?
We seek to have our artists in the right place at the right time doing the right things with the right people. If that brings massive exposure, great! However, the most important thing is that we are helping our artist be faithful to the ministry in which God has placed them.
6) What's your current take on our industry's music in general?
With increased technology our industry is able to produce better sounding records for less money than ever before.
7) What are the most important tools/resources you use to stay on top of the formats growth and daily changes?
CRW, SoundScan, R&R and AllAccess.com
8) Where and how are you finding new talent to sign nowadays?
Primarily through record company and manager relationships.
9) Who has had the biggest impact on these facets of your life: personal, professional and spiritual?
Pastor Dale Evrist (my pastor) for all his hours of input and personal mentoring in my life and business, and Charles Dorris (William Morris Agency) has been a big help to me over the years.
10) If you could have any job outside the music business, what would it be?
I would be "Jack Bauer" on "24."
